Making Soy Candle's is my hobby..and so is selling collectibles online and ....well, read on!

When I first started this lens, much was happening in my life. Jimmy and I was trying to afford a wedding and find a house we could afford to buy. I was looking for a way to make extra money and still stay home and hold down the fort.

My son, daughter and granddaughter, lived with us in a big, 4 bedroom house. It was expensive to rent, $550 a month and all utilities. (Yea, here that was expensive!) We felt we could better spend that in buying.

All of us wanted a place to buy together, and, like I said, I was looking for at home work. My daughter worked, Jimmy worked, and Sheldon had an income. I was the baby sitter and house keeper, so to speak. My being home was almost a necessity...

I had just been introduced to soy candles. Next to plain old paraffin candles, these can not be beat!
So, of course, like a good little squid, I did this lens on Hobbies. Well, it been a while, and I still love my soy candles, but I have other interests now, too.

Like, I love getting McCoy Pots, and planters; anything McCoy. My son and daughter are always finding me the greatest stuff. Some of it I keep, but some of it me and Jimmy sell on eBay, and Bonanzle.

I am a "collectibles collector"; and it shows. e had decided to start selling all the stuff we had sitting around collecting dust on eBay. Thus, my new hobby...eBay.

I am considering making some type of primitive "modern" angels to sell online. Stick around and keep an eye on my lenses...I'll announce them here on Squidoo when I do.

By the way...we have been offered a house to buy. Our dreams are really coming true. And, I have all my loyal customers to thank, as well as my friends from Online Business Success Group. They are the greatest folks to have on your side. I'm one lucky lady!;>)

Why Soy?

Here is a rundown of why you should consider burning soy wax candles...

*****Burning soy wax candles helps support our American farmers.*****

*Soy Wax burns 30% to 50% longer than paraffin

*Soy wax is water soluble. (No more messy cleanups)

*Soy wax is biodegradable.

*Little or no soot is produced from burning soy wax.

*No carcinogens are produced from burning soy wax.

*Soy wax is non-toxic.

*Soy wax hold color and scent better than paraffin

*Soy wax will not discolor your walls or furniture from petroleum byproducts

*Soy wax is a renewable resource, petroleum is limited.

*Soy wax is comparable in price to paraffin

****Animal fat is not an ingredient of soy wax****

YUCK! ANIMAL FAT? I don't even like the SOUND of that, do you?

If it burns 30% to 50% longer and cleans up with soap and water I am sold right there! Save me money!

Biodegradable: It is much better for the earth.

I want my granddaughter to have a place to live; not have to move to the moon!:)

The "supports the American farmer" part is very important to me. I grew up on a small farm, and I hope to move back to the country some day soon, besides I'm a red blooded AMERICAN!

Soy wax is non toxic...Hmmm...

Then again; it is a RENEWABLE RESOURCE; which means it can be easily replaced. The oil industry can not easily replace anything!

If it won't discolor that means a lot less scrubbing!

Little or no soot an NO carcinogens means we are all healthier!

Think about that for a moment. That means we live longer.

Soy holds it's color and scent LONGER than paraffin; again saving me money!

I hate it when I buy something only to discover it is useless for it's intended purpose; don't YOU?

Do you have a hobby?

What is it? Do you use it to supplement your income?

Come on...almost everyone has a hobby. If you don't, is there one you would like to take up?

What a fun lens! It's great and very well done! I love candles. This information would be great on a display stand in a presentation. http://www.displaystandworld.com.

The American Lung Assoation..

I have COPD; a breathing disorder...

According to the American Lung Association - "slow burning, scented, paraffin candles cause lead poisoning and using slow burning paraffin candles cause poor indoor air quality, and a serious health concern."

I don't know about you but that scares me!
Now, folks, I have COPD! I can not breath in some stores because of all the smells. God AND bad!

It is also stated that the carcinogens produced by paraffin candles is equal to the damage cause by second hand smoke from tobacco smokers.

Does this mean you should throw away your paraffin candles? We have.... and we hope, for your health's sake, you do to!!

I use Soy because of this very reason. I quit smoking cigarettes; I quit using other products that would harm me further...but I did not want to quit burning candles! So you can imagine how happy I was to find soy candles.

AND...while your candles are curing check out these other neat links!

**Many of us imagine the process of making candles to be arduous, time consuming and messy. We might picture a cluttered kitchen with numerous pots, molds, wicks etc.
**Trust me it's not hard at all! If I can do it ANYONE can. I use a specific wax brand that all but insures perfection. NV Soy wax.
I bring my water to a rolling boil and using my double boiler pot I melt the wax.
Following the instructions I add my colors and then my fragrance.
We pour our candles slowly...the slower the pour the better the candle.
Since soy melts at a lower temp it makes it so much easier to use.
As far as I am concerned the best part is cleaning up! It is so easy. All you need is good old fashioned soap and water. It does not cling to everything; it simply disolves away!
