Middletown Days 2011

About Middletown's most famous weekend

Middletown Days 2011 is now history. I trust the festivities of that June Father's Day Weekend in Middletown was all that those who worked hard to make the special magic happen expected. After all, 2011 was the 50th anniversary of this Northern California western festival. That's pretty special. So, my hope is that some second-mile efforting from folks around the world will help to make the future of Middletown brighter than its past.

The power of students writing letters

Nothing succeeds like success

Back in 2006, 30 high school students wrote the Fox News Channel requesting the network come enjoy this event. Amazingly, this small letter-writing campaign set off an international buzz - with encouraging actions from the Lake County Board of Supervisors and the Ryze Business Network (which happens to be worldwide).

What difference could enthusiastic letters from children make? Well, in 2006 the Fox News Channel's Adam Housley showed up for the festival, spoke to the parade crowd and got Middletown mentioned all day long of the Fox News Network. That was a big FIRST for Middletown, CA.

Then, in 2007, due to the 2006 success, more students wanted to get involved with a letter-writing campaign - including Middle School students. That year 110 letters got written. This time high-profile individuals and businesses were pursued - including Steve Jobs, George Lucas, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Doug McConnell (host of KRON 4 TV's "Bay Area Backroads" . Make no mistake, these young people were determined to make magic happen" in Middletown. Would you like to see a sampling of these letters and to whom they have been written? I think you will be amazed? Click here. Local teachers were so impressed that all students participating in this campaign received community service credit toward high school graduation.

Prepare now for the 50th anniversary!

Invite your governor/request a proclamation

Whether you live in Middletown, CA or not, you can play a significant role in helping this town move forward into the 21st century. In fact, that would be a very nice thing to do in the aftermath of this its 50th anniversary.

Folks in Sacramento will be looking at this Squidoo lens. Would you like to say something to them? Well, I cordially invite you to share your thoughts in the Guest Book in the module below.

But, that is not all I encourage you to do. I encourage you to create some extra-special enthusiasm to help Middletown move forward. See the special suggestions below.
  1. Post a letter to the editor of the Middletown Times Star with suggestions for ways a small town community can move itself forward into the 21st century. If local, call them at (707) 987-3602.
  2. Post a letter to the editor of Lake County News with similar suggestions. If local, call them at (707)245-4550.
  3. Post a letter to the editor of the Lake County Record-Bee. If local, call (707) 263-5636.
  4. Contact the Fox News Channel at 1-888-369-4762. Leave a message thanking them for sending Adam Housley back in 2006 to speak at Middletown Days and encourage him to come again for another visit.
  5. I plan to create a special sparkling, acrylic display to help promote the 50th anniversary of "Middletown Days." Would you like to be involved? Simply send me some of your one-sided business cards in a SASE (Stamped, Self-Addressed Envelope) to:

    Lamar Morgan
    Attn: Sparkling Display
    4701 NW 30th Street
    Coconut Creek, FL 33063

Why the SASE? Because I want to respond to the volunteered participation in this campaign with a gift - a Foursquare Cling Sticker. If you are unfamiliar with Foursquare.com and it's clever sticker, visit Fourquare Clings and be sure to watch the vidoes.

Initially, I planned to ship just one display. That display was to go to Ting's Thai Kitchen in Hidden Valley Lake, CA. However, two social media heavyweights have come into the picture. So, a second display will be on its way to Square headquarters in San Francisco. A third display will be on its way to Foursquare headquarters in New York City.

Although Middletown Days 2011 is now history, there is still time to you to send your business cards and be part of the threee displays. Where else can you go for less than a dollar in postage be featured in three high-profile locations? Please do not let this amazing opportunity pass your business by.

Look who's involved

With this special promotion

Below is a companies who have already chosen to become involved with this special promotion of "Middletown Days 2011." If you would like to become involved, just send 10 of your one-sided business cards to the address previously mentioned, along with an SASE.

We have done it before

We can do it again

Locals got Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to acknowledge a shopping center festival in Lake County - the Hardesters Shopping Center Spring Fling back in May of 2009. Well, let's unite and encourage our political leaders to give special acknowledgement to the 50th anniversary of "Middletown Days." (For those interested, Ting's Thai Kitchen may still have some "suitable-for-framing" copies of this letter of endorsement from Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. You can also view a readable version of this letter by clicking here. This letter was actually sent by California's Small Business Advocate, Marty Keller, and printed on expensive photo paper as keepsakes for the Lake County community.)

I have received a special form from Ruth Valenzuela, senior field representative for Assemblyman Wesley Chesboro. I am forwarding the document template to the Middletown Times Star for the appropriate inclusion of text to properly acknowledge "Middletown Days." Can acknowledgement from Gov. Jerry Brown be far behind? With encouraging words from you delivered to this web page, I believe wonderful things can happen. Let's band together here and make the 50th anniversary of "Middletown Days" truly memorable.

Lake County, you can do it. Simply reach out to your elected officials. Think "better together" and watch the magic happen.

There is a lot of talk here about Middletown Days 2011, but no mention of the date. Is it Father's Day weekend, as tradition holds, or a different weekend in June??
