General Mitchell International Airport (GMIA) - MKE
I spent many years working as a ground handler (called a ramp agent or 'ramper') at GMIA, a.k.a. MKE, and maybe I'll post some of my better stories about those exciting days. I'll keep adding on here so check back.

GMIA By Wikipedia
General Mitchell International Airport is a county-owned public airport located five miles (8 km) south of the central business district of Milwaukee, a city in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, United States.
It is named after United States Army Air Service General Billy Mitchell, who was raised in Milwaukee and is often regarded as the father of the United States Air Force. The airport is the main hub of Midwest Airlines, and a secondary hub for AirTran Airways. Along with being the primary airport for Milwaukee, Mitchell International has sometimes been described as Chicago's third airport, as many Chicago travelers use it as an alternative to Chicago O'Hare and Chicago Midway. It is also used by travellers throughout Wisconsin and Northern Illinois. An Amtrak railway station opened at the airport in 2005. The station is used by the Hiawatha Service line running between Chicago and Milwaukee several times daily.

General Billy Mitchell by Wikipedia
William Lendrum "Billy" Mitchell (December 28, 1879 - February 19, 1936) was an American Army general who is regarded as the father of the U.S. Air Force.
He is one of the most famous and most controversial figures in the history of American airpower.
Mitchell served in France during the First World War and, by the conflict's end, commanded all American air combat units in that country. After the war, he was appointed deputy director of the Air Service and began advocating for increased investment in air power, believing that this would prove vital in future wars. He argued particularly for the ability of bombers to sink battleships and organized a series of bombing runs against stationary ships designed to test the idea.
He antagonized many people in the Army with his arguments and criticism and, in 1925, was returned to his permanent rank of Colonel. Later that year, he was court-martialed for insubordination after accusing Army and Navy leaders of an "almost treasonable administration of the national defense."This comment is quoted as "incompetency, criminal negligence, and almost treasonable administration by the War and Navy departments" from an interview given by Gen Mitchell in San Antonio, Texas and published in the New York Times according to "The Courtmartial of Billy Mitchell (1925)" in Footnotes to American History by Harold S. Sharp, The Scarecrow Press, Inc., Metuchen, N.J., 1977, pp. 430-433. He resigned from the service shortly afterward.
Mitchell received many honors following his death, including a commission by the President as a Major General. He is also the only individual after whom a type of American military aircraft, the B-25 Mitchell, is named.

GMIA Main Concourse

"Meet me under the big clock!" Those are words I heard over and over.
This central area is the location of the Information Booth (with a 'lost and found' and public paging system), staffed by Travelers Aid volunteers or by parking lot staff (at night and early AM). I always found FlightAware.com to be a much better source of accurate flight information than the electric airport signs which always seem to be mesmerizing a crowd of puzzled or perplexed folks.
Of course to a ramper, a glance out the window and a bit of up to date weather information would usually tell the true story, often in contradiction to the fancy-looking high-tech appearing (but all-too-often WRONG) signs. Tip: If you can find out the location of the aircraft you will be flying out on, you can formulate a better understanding of what is really happening with your flight - and whether that 'on time' notice is true or just a 'too good to be true' default sign setting that didn't get updated (perhaps because everyone is too busy working around an impending flight delay or diversion).
