Mixed Martial Arts Rankings

Are you looking for the best fighters in the world just not the UFC you have came to the right place. Mixed Martial Arts Rankings gives you a up to date page that gives you a look into the best fighters in the world.

How the site will work. I will be ranking each weight class in MMA up to the top 10 in each wieght class. Now I'm going to try to be fair and not list the most popular guys. Im looking for the best fighters not the biggest names. I will have a poll in each weight class and also a place were you the people can make a case for who you think should be number one. If you make a good case for a fighter I will have no promble changing the ranking.

Heavyweight Class

1.Fedor Emelianenko  (28-1-0,1 NC)
Is the World Association of Mixed Martial Arts Heavyweight Championship. The only way you don't know this guy is if you are new to MMA or you are one of those people who just watch the UFC thinking they have the best fighters in the world. Fedor hasn't been challenged in years and with his recent performance, destroying two-time UFC champion  Tim Sylvia in 36 brutal seconds. Just goes to show the MMA world he is the top dog.  Fedro next fight could be with Andrei Arlovski at Affliction  Jan 24th 2009 Show.

2. Randy Couture (16-8-0)
Yes Couture is 44 years old and hasn't been in the cage for along time. But, he is the UFC Heavyweight Champion. Randy didn't fight for a year as his legal battle with the UFC was on going. But, now Randy will be back at UFC 91on Nov 15th  to face the fast rising power house Brock Lesnar. We will see if the old man still has his magic or if the newcomer to the sport can dethrone the legend.

3. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (31-4-1, 1 NC)
UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion is doing a great job as a coach on the eighth season of the UFC's reality series, which will build toward Nogueira's first title defense against the former champ Frank Mir at UFC 92 on Dec 27th. The winner of that fight will face the winner of the  Randy Couture vs.Brock Lesnar fight to see who the real UFC  Heavyweight Champion is.

4. Andrei Arlovski  (14-5-0)
Arlovski was top dog in the UFC at one point and is starting to look like his old self again. Arlovski took on Rob Nelson On OCT 4th at EliteXC CBS primetime Show and won in the second round by Knock out. Andrei Arlovski next fight will be with Fedor Emelianenko on Jan 17th 2009. If Arlovski can pull out a upset he could be condsider the best  heavyweight in the world.

5. Josh Barnett
(23-5-0)
Barnett looked good in his July 19 waxing of Pedro Rizzo. Barnett is back into the heavyweight mix in a serious way, Barnett has teased that he may compete on Sengoku's Nov. 1 card. However, his management has publicly nixed hopes of him facing Fedor Emelianenko in January as the headliner for Affliction's co-promotion with Golden Boy Promotions.

6.Tim Sylvia
(24-5-0)
Tim Sylvia was smashed by Fedor Emelianenko in a humbling 36 seconds in his last fight. Sylvia has lost three of his last four fights and is trying to return to his old form. The "Maine-iac's" losses have came from some of the top heavyweights in the world. Sylvia next fight is still unknown but, you can bet its going to be against one of the best fighters in the world.

7.Mirko Filipovic
 (23-6-2,1 NC)
"Cro Cop" has been recovering from lingering elbow
and knee injuries and he didn't take a loss in his Sept. 23 meeting with Alistair Overeem, but what "Cro Cop" did take in the fight may have been just as painful. In addition to being completely
dominated for the abbreviated bout, and taking a nasty series of knees to groin, Filipovic looked like a shell of the fighter who had torn
through Pride's open-weight grand prix just two years ago. Cro Cop needs a big fight to get back to his old self before he falls out of the top ten.

8. Ben Rothwell (29-6-0)
Rothwell validated himself with a gutsy performance against Andrei Arlovski. He was looking to get back into the ring against Pedro Rizzo on Affliction's slated Oct. 11 follow-up card, but the postponement of the event left him in the lurch temporarily. The Miletich product may still meet Rizzo on the rescheduled January Affliction bill.

9.Frank Mir
(11- 3 - 0)
Frank Mir is still a huge question mark in his up coming fight with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. We all know the old Mir the one who was awesome on the ground and the UFC champion. The Mir of late has been out of shape and sloppy. But, if Mir can pull it together he is 2
fights away from being UFC champion one more time.

10. Brock Lesnar
(2 - 1 - 0)
Brock Lesnar only has 3 MMA fights and its crazy he is in the top ten. But, he is fighting for the UFC championship in his next fight at UFC 91. If Lesnar finds away to pull his next fight out it will shut
everyone up out there that doesn't believe this guy can fight with anyone in the world.

Recent Fall Outs
Fabricio Werdum(11-4-1)
Werdum was put down hard by the  Brazilian Junior "Cigano" dos Santosmay  at UFC 90.  Werdum was knock out in the 1st RD and has slip out of my Top 10.

Light Heavyweight Class

1. Forrest Griffin (16-4-0)
Arguably the biggest and best weight class the UFC Light Heavyweight champion is the best fighter in the world at 205. And right now Griffin holds the title after beating Quinton Jackson in his last fight. Griffin next will come on Dec 27th at UFC 92 vs Rashad Evans.

2. Lyoto Machida (13-0-0)
Unfortunately, Machida's slated October bout with Thiago Silva fell apart due to Silva injuring his back. However, Machida will have his big chance to convince all doubters and UFC brass that he is the
undisputed top challenger to the light heavyweight title on an even bigger stage. He'll meet Silva on Super Bowl weekend in Vegas at UFC 94

3. Quinton Jackson(28-7-0)
The former UFC champion is still facing potentially serious legal ramifications following his July arrest. But in the mean time no tune-up fights are in order for Jackson, who will return at UFC 92 on
Dec. 27 for a third meeting with his archrival, Wanderlei Silva, who has twice brutally stopped Jackson.

4. Rashad Evans(11-0-1)
Evans showed up and destroyed the former UFC Light Heavyweight king on Sept. 6, maybe sending Liddell into retirement. Evans has taking care of everyone the UFC has put in front of him and now will face Forrest Griffin at UFC 92 on Dec 27th.

5. Mauricio Rua (16-3-0)
With a big fight against Chuck Liddell looming, disaster struck again when Rua injured the same knee that had been surgically repaired just
months before. The Brazilian has said he will return this fall or winter.

6. Wanderlei Silva (32-8-1, 1 NC)
After a vintage Silva performance in May when he stampeded over Keith Jardine in 36 seconds. Silva will face Rampage at UFC 92 on Dec 27th.
Silva, who has twice brutally stopped Jackson looks to contuine his climb back to the top of this strong weight class.

7. Keith Jardine (13-4-1)
After knocking off Chuck Liddell, Jardine was brutally dispatched in 36 seconds by Wanderlei Silva. At UFC 89 Jardine got back on track With a
win over  Brandon Vera. Jardine seats in the middle of this strong weight class ready to give any contender a great fight.

8. Chuck Liddell (21-5-0)
Liddell has lost 3 of his last 4 fights, and after his last lost to Rashad Evans he is talking about retiring. The Iceman is still one of the most dangers fighters in the MMA world but, only time will tell to see if we see him fight again.

9. Thiago Silva (13 - 0 - 0)
Thiago silva is still undefeated but, pulled out of his up coming fight with Lyoto Machida due to injury. But, with lady luck on silva side that fight will now take place  on Super Bowl weekend in Vegas at UFC 94. With the winner maybe becomeing the undisputed top challenger
to the light heavyweight title.

10. Rich Franklin (23-3-0, 1 NC)
The former UFC middleweight champ returned to the 205-pound division and beat Matt Hamillin in September . Now will look to take a leap into 205-pound contention when he meets Dan Henderson in a 205-pound headliner at UFC 93 in Dublin,Ireland. Franklin has to win a few to work his way up to the top inthis weight class but, you can bet on Franklin being at the top for years to come.

Middleweight Class

1. Anderson Silva (22-4-0)
This man has been unstoppable in the UFC and while the UFC tries to find a fighter to stand up and beat Silva he builds up his win column and might go down as the best UFC middleweight of all time. Silva will look to further his brutal stranglehold on the 185-pound division when he headlines UFC 90 against surging contender Patrick Cote.

2. Paulo Filho (16-0-0)
After going through depression, drug dependency and rehab, the Brazilian fireplug will be back to rematch Chael Sonnen with his WEC middleweight title on the line. Filho took a comeback victory over Sonnen last December, escaping with the win after a controversial armbar stoppage.

3. Robbie Lawler (16-4-0, 1 NC)
Lawler is a great middleweight but, may never get challenge in EliteXC, which will need to find premier challengers for its middleweight king.

4. Rich Franklin (23-3-0, 1 NC)
The former UFC middleweight champ returned to the 205-pound division and beat Matt Hamill. It is suspected that the "Ace" will return to 185 pounds and make another run at a title shot.

5. Yushin Okami (22-4-0)
The last man to beat Anderson Silva Japan's top middleweight seeks to heal his broken fist and get back into the octagon.

6. Thales Leites (13-1-0)
Thales Leites will have the chance to take another leap forward on Oct. 25 in Chicago. The Brazilian will fight undefeated Croat Goran Reljic at UFC 90.

7. Frank Trigg (16-6-0)
"Twinkle Toes," is a two-time UFC title challenger who will try and get back into his old fighting ways. When he takes on former Olympic judo gold medalist Makoto Takimoto in a middleweight fight.

8. Michael Bisping (16 - 1 - 0)
Bisping has looked real good in the UFC, and his only loss coming from Rashad Evens in a very close fight. If Bisping keeps it up and wins a few more fights in his new weight class he could be seeing a title shot in the near future.

9. Dan Henderson (22-7-0)
Henderson won his last fight over Brazilian prospect Rousimar "Toquinho" Palhares. If Henderson can get back on a roll he could return to his championship days that he enjoyed in Pride.

10. Kazuo Misaki (20-8-2, 1 NC)
Kazuo Misaki will look to make a better impression on the stateside audience than he made in his February 2007 American debut, when he was dominated by Frank Trigg in an awful performance. This time he takes on the well-traveled Joe Riggs Sep 19th

Welterweight Class

1. Georges St. Pierre (17-2-0)
St. Pierre is one of the best athletes in the world and looks like he has a hold on the UFC welterweight belt for some time to come. St. Pierre delivered arguably the finest performance of his career and smashed Jon Fitch in his last fight. It looks like St. Pierre next fight could be B.J. Penn to see who is the better fighter pound for pound.

2. Josh Koscheck (11-2-0)
With Jon Fitch's lopsided loss to Georges St. Pierre , Koscheck slides into the two spot as Fitch falls back to 3. Koscheck should get a tough fight for his next fight and if he keeps up his winning ways he should be getting a title shot soon.

3. Jon Fitch (17-3-0, 1 NC)
With Fitch's 7 fight win streak in the UFC coming to end against Georges St. Pierre in their Aug. 9 bout. He looks to get back into the mix when the dust settles at the top of this tough weight class.

4. Diego Sanchez(19-2-0)
Sanchez won an impressive fight on June 21 to show the MMA world he is a top 170lbs. He stopped a tough Luigi Fioravanti in the third-round and his standup looking better then it has in his last fights. . Things only pick up from here, though, as the "Nightmare" is penciled in to meet Thiago Alves at UFC 90 on Oct. 25 in Chicago.

5. Thiago Alves (15-3-0)
His win over former champion Matt Hughes on June 7 in London was impressive. Now Alves will face Diego Sanchez in his next fight on Oct. 25 with the winner of that fight getting a title shot in the near future.

6. Jake Shields (Pictures) (21-4-1)
EliteXC's welterweight title holder this 29-year-old Cesar Gracie product now has a 11 fight win streak. His last fight was with Paul Daley and Shields look good finshing the fight in the second round with a armbar.

7. Matt Hughes (42-7-0)
Hughes lost his last fight to the young, up-and-coming welterweight Thiago Alves. Although some have called for the longtime welterweight king to retire, a grudge match with Matt Serra is likely next up for Hughes, who continues to recuperate from a knee injury.

8. Karo Parisyan (18-5-0)
After his deflating loss to Thiago Alves in April, A last-minute back injury forced Karo to withdraw from his UFC 88 bout with Yoshiyuki Yoshida.

9. Carlos Condit (23-4-0)
In another great WEC main event, the 24 year old Condit beat Hiromitsu Miura in a fourth-round stoppage in their taxing WEC title bout. While Condit's struggles may have tempered the enthusiasm for him to head to the UFC, welterweight challenges within the WEC seem all but exhausted for the 24-year-old New Mexico native.

10. Matt Serra (9-5-0)
Serra, was destroyed in his rematch with St. Pierre in April, and needs to pull out a big victory soon to stay on this list and prove that the win against Pierre wasn't a lucky fight. We will see if Serra pulls it together and takes Matt Hughes on in the near future.
