MMORPG Private Servers, a lens explaining what they are!

Ranked #10,597 in Games, #515,023 overall

So.. you want to learn about MMORPG Private servers, eh?

Well the first step is you'll probably want to know what an MMORPG is first by reading my lens about it, here. If you already know what an MMORPG is and stands for, then continue to read on to learn about what a Private server for an MMORPG is!

Private server.. yeah i'm anxious to learn about that, what is it?

A private server is exactly what you think it might be but it's generally for a game that's already made. In otherwords, if it's a private server for an MMORPG it's a server that is made from an already made game and altered to tone to the specific private server. Each private server does things their own way whether it be a difference in how you level your characters, the types of characters you can choose from, and maybe other additional things like unique quests & items you can obtain.

Well wait.. what's a server stand for?

A server is generally what the given game or files or whatever really is hosted on. The better the server, generally the better the site/game/whatever will run.

What're the top two seemingly most popular "private servers" today?

The two servers that seem to be most common on the internet today are servers for WoW & servers for Ragnarok Online.

WoW, what's that?

If you haven't heard of WoW which most people have.. if you watch TV at all, or read the newspaper.. it's World Of Warcraft. It's an incredibly interactive "virtual world" where you can do lots and lots of things from crafts to everyday leveling up & you can interact with load's of other people while doing so as well as PVP(player vs. player).

Well.. that leave's Ragnarok Online..

Ragnarok Online is quite similar to WoW but not as big & the classes differ from WoW. You also don't really get to do crafts like you do in WoW. Although there is less to do on here, the classes you can pick from and the monsters you fight, as well as the maps are much more interesting at least on my opinion then WoW is. You can also PVP(player vs. player) just like in WoW.

So.. is this free?

All private servers are usually free. The whole point of a private server is to show off whatever the person's unique talent & to show that they can make a game out of an already made game. Generally though since all private servers should be non-profit organizations there is server costs & other things associated with running your own private server in which case, that's why a lot of server's have donates implemented.

A donate.. what the heck?

A donate is generally an item or an ability, or an item with an ability, or heck. Maybe it's just a stylish piece of clothing you can wear when it comes to the particular game. Sometimes they aren't obtainable within the game which makes you want to go and purchase one or two to show off to your friends. If the sale of donates is good enough, they can help keep the server alive without having to pay out of pocket cash which for some people just isn't an option! No, you're not required to purchase any donates if you don't want to but if you have the money to spare and truely support the server you're playing on it's highly advised that you do if you want to help keep the server alive.

Hope you enjoyed!
