MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3, more commonly referred to as MP3, is an audio encoding format.
The technology uses what is known as a lossy compression algorithm designed to greatly reduce the amount of data required to represent the audio recording, yet still sound like a faithful reproduction of the original uncompressed audio to most listeners.
MP3 is an audio-specific format in which the compression removes certain parts of sound that are outside the hearing range of most people. By discarding components that are less audible to human hearing, and recording the remaining information in an efficient manner, file sizes can be greatly reduced.
While perfectionists will complain that they can hear the difference in quality of MP3 recordings vis-a-vis a format that uses non-lossy compression, for most of us, the MP3 file format is just fine.

The top 100 best-selling songs are 89 cents, unless marked otherwise. Most albums are priced from $5.99 to $9.99. The top 100 best-selling albums are $8.99 or less, unless marked otherwise.
Every song in Amazon MP3 download area is encoded at 256 kilobits per second, which gives you high audio quality at a manageable file size.
