Maplestory Guide- complete levels 0 to 10 tips and hints

Ranked #2,149 in Games, #87,112 overall | Donates to Squidoo Charity Fund

This is Maplestory guide for levels 1-10. If you choose to become a Mage (magician) it's levels 1 through 8.

When you begin the game

  1. make a character

  2. then decide on a name and all that good stuff

  3. decide on your class

If you read my previous guide you should have no trouble at all.

EDIT(8-15-11) The game makes character creation much much easier now. Just follow the on screen directions and everything is pretty much taken care of. If its your first character allow the game to apply your AP points when you level.

  • Where there's an X it doesn't matter what you roll in that stat.

It only matters that you get the lowest possible in the stats that you don't need.

Your goal is to score the lowest possible in the stats that you don't need so you start out with the most points in the stats you DO need.

    Stats Explained - Finally!

Now you, like so many people before you, are probably thinking to yourself,

"Why shouldn't I put some stat points into INT if I'm a Bowman - I don't want a stupid bowman."

    Or,

"Why wouldn't I put some stat points into LUK if I'm a warrior, it could help me out."

But sadly, this logic that might make perfect sense to you in the real world is completely and absolutely wrong when it comes to having the best character possible in MS.

There are two very good reasons why.

Note: Before we start, you may notice that this section is rather long. So if you want to know why you should do things my way you can read it. Or if you're confident in what I'm telling you, skip it.

    • What you must understand is that how much damage every character can do comes from a formula that that class follows. Everybody with the same class follows the same formula. Its that simple. That's how the computer figures out how much damage you can do. Now every class has a different formula. Now I could explain it to you with the formulas and stuff but I'm going to try to explain it using the least amount off numbers possible. But just in case you're interested in the formulas they can all be found Here

    • maplestory bowman or crossbowman

      • The next thing we have to understand is that every class focuses on two stats. Why two stats? Because this two stats determine how much damage you can do. For example, the simplified version of the formula for warriors looks something like this-

      • For the purposes of this guide will assume that the warrior is using a spear and has 40 STR and 20 DEX. So now to figure out how much damage he is going to hit the computer will use this formula.

      • STR(40) × 5.0 + DEX(20) / 100 × The weapon damage(we will say that this is 30)

      • So if you work out the math you will see that the most this warrior will hit without using any skills or power-ups is 66. This warrior did his stats correctly because he did not put any stat points into INT or LUK. But what if another warrior did put stats into those two? We'll see how high he can hit.

      • This warrior's stats are: STR is only 30 and his DEX is only 12.

      • STR(30) × 5.0 + DEX(12) ÷ 100 × The weapon damage (this will again be 30)

      • 48.6 Is the highest he can hit. So that's probably 49. See why you shouldn't add stat points you don't need? They don't make you hit higher, they don't give you anything else, and you're essentially wasting them putting them into stats that are useless to your class.

    • Reason number two: Every 5 levels you get new armor and a weapon. However, to use/wear this new equipment you need have the required amount of points in the stats your class focuses on. So in the above example, the weak warrior probably can't even use the spear because his STR and/or DEX aren't high enough. Therefore he would do even less damage then I said. Now do you see why you shouldn't put stat points into stats that you don't need? Not to mention the fact that none of your skills or equips will ever depend on the stats you don't need.

    3, 2, 1... GO!

Now that you know your stats and have created a character we can finally begin the game. :)

You will start off on a small wooden balcony, talk to the NPC (Non-playable-character) next to you and begin the MS tutorial.

Basically all you have to do is move to the left and talk to any NPC you see.

While we're here you need to know a few things about quests as you'll be doing some easy ones in the tutorial.

If an NPC has a light bulb over their head that means that they have a quest for you. Once you accept their quest, the light blub will change into a scroll with three dots next to it.

Finally, when you're done with the quest the symbol will change into a brown closed book with a maple leaf on the cover. A notice will inform you when you have completed a quest, and you must speak to the NPC who gave it to you to receive your reward.

Once you get to the place where there are bunnies with drums and floating snowballs you have reached the end of the tutorial.

Complete the quest that ordered to you to kill one of each enemy and stay there killing monsters at least until you're level three.

Once you have accomplished that go and talk to the final NPC to the right of the snowballs.

She will get you out of the tutorial building. Once outside breathe-in the fresh air, talk to one more NPC and your are finally free of the tutorials and you no longer have to wear the silly green suit!

    Maplestory Skills & Stats

Now, before we move on we have to discuss how to correctly apply your skill and stat points.

First, because you're a beginner you have three skills. Each max out at after you put three skill points in them, but the thing is that you only get six skill points as a beginner.

So I suggest that you max out Nimble Feet and Three snails.

    Why?

    Well, the reasons are simple.

First, the skill nimble feet is useful through the entire game, whereas recovery is incredibly useless after level 10 because of the job advancements or level 8 if you're a mage.

And in about 2 levels on Maple Island you will get a chair that will recover 50 HP every 10 seconds, and you can use it for as long as you want. So that makes recovery almost worthless and a waste of skill points.

Maxing out Three Snails is more of a fun skill but becomes useless quite quickly. I mean, who doesn't think that throwing a snail shell at an enemy is funny?

And if you're becoming a mage this skill is a must as it's the only way you will hit over 20 without deviating from your formula before you become a mage.

As you know from my first guide, every class has to follow a formula to distribute their stat points correctly. These formulas can be found in my beginning guide. Below is a separate link for each class and all links open a new window.

    Maple Island Quests

    Maplestory quest guides

Now, moving on to the quest you should be doing here.

If you're becoming a warrior you should be doing every quest here. All of them should be easy enough.

However, if you're are not becoming a warrior you may not be able to do every quest here. That's fine.

There are, however, a couple of quest that you have to do.

One is Pio's Collection quest. This quest is incredibly easy and has a great reward.

To start the quest go to Amherst where you will find an NPC named Pio.

He should have a light bulb over his head. Click on it and accept his quest. All you need to do is find 10 crates throughout Amherst, break them open, and pick up what they drop.

When you give Pio the things you will have completed the quest.

Then talk to him again and he will tell you that he can make something for you.

Talk to him again when the icon above his head tells you that the quest is done. He will give you a folding chair which will help you tremendously throughout the game.

When you get it, open the keyboard with a button on the bottom right side of your screen and drag the chair from your inventory to a button within easy reach.

This is called "Hotkeying," and is useful for skills and equips you need to use quickly.

After that, the only other quest you really need to do are the ones for Maria and Rain's Maple quiz for easy experience.

When you complete both of Maria's quests, a quest from Lucas should be available.

Complete this one for the useful work gloves, your first pair of gloves!

These quests are highly recommended as you won't be able to return to Maple Island after you leave it, and these items will never again be available.

Most of your time here will be spent training and familiarizing yourselves with the controls.

Practice jumping on and off ropes, read what the NPCs tell you, train on monsters, and interact with the other beginner players.

The great thing about Maple Island is that there are no higher levels allowed there, so you can make your mistakes in peace.

I would also like to say: Do not spend the mesos you collect on equips or items in Maple Island!

If you don't want to have big problems collecting mesos later for the equips and potions you'll sorely need, don't waste them now on little temptations.

Note to aspiring Mages: If you are becoming a mage at level 8 you have to leave Maple Island for Victoria island at level 8.

If that is not the case, then leave when you're almost level 10.

    Victoria Island and Job Advancements

Now all the classes go in different directions.

Once you've taken the boat ride from Southperry and you've arrived in Lith Harbor, talk to the NPC in front of a booth that says "Tickets" above it. He can take you to another city for a little cash.

But before you do that, walk around and explore the town. Make sure that you talk to the NPC there that looks like a Viking, his name is Olaf.

Complete his first quest (which is a short quiz), then take his second quest and choose the option that corresponds with your job.

Once you have done that go and take the cab to the right city so you can receive your job advancement:

    Warrior - Perion

    Bowman - Henesese

    Thief - Kerning City

    Mage - Ellinia

    Pirate - Nautilus Port

Once you get to the right city go and get your jobs from the job instructor.

If you're in Perion or Ellinia, go to the top of the town and enter the topmost building.

In Perion you have to go inside a temple and in Ellinia it will be a large library, all the way at the top of the town.

If you're at Kerning, go to the middle of the city and go inside a door with the sign above it that says Fuzion Jazz Bar.

Once inside, go to the left into the bathroom type thing and climb down the ladder. There you will see your instructor who looks like a bat/vampire.

If you are in Henesys, go into the Mushroom Park and walk to the right until you come to a house that has an NPC named Athena Pierce in it; talk to her.

As we like to say in MapleStory, "Gratz" on your first job advancement!!

I hope this maplestory guide was helpful to you
