MW - live adaptation of cult Osamu Tezuka's manga
MW (- ムウ -), a manga by famed artist and father of anime Osamu Tezuka was turned into a live-action film. The director's seat was taken by Hitoshi Iwamoto, known for several popular television dramas including Queen's Classroom and Nobuta wo produce.
Tamaki Hiroshi (Nodame Cantabile) stars as a diligent and efficient bank employee, Yuuki Michio, witch has another side: a brutal kidnapper who commits horrible crimes, one after the other. As a kid he survived the outbreak of a virus called MW and the following cover-up operation by the military. It slowly drives him insane and makes him murder the people responsible for the outbreak.
Yamada Takayuki (Crows Zero) co-stars as Yuuki's friend and accomplice, a priest named Yutaro Garai.

Plot
When a top secret chemical compound called MW infects an island near Okinawa, the military is sent in to kill all the victims and cover up the incident. A survivor named Michio Yuki grows up to become a highly-successful banker, but he is slowly being driven mad by the effects of MW.
After committing a series of ruthless crimes to get revenge against the people responsible for the cover-up, he decides that the only way to truly get revenge is to unleash MW on the world and exterminate the entire human race.
Father Garai, a priest desperately trying to save Michio's soul-and possibly his own in the process-but not necessarily doing much to stop the crime spree.

Interesting Facts
- Osamu Tezuka's manga "M.W." originally ran in Shogakukan's Big Comic from 1976 to 1978. Also it was published in English translation by Vertical Inc. in 2007.
- When published, it received lots of attention due to the high level of violence and homosexual themes contained within its story.
- Filming started on April 20, 2008. Some scenes were shot in Thailand.
MW Chapter 0: Akuma no Game
special tv drama

On June 30, a few days before the MW release, NTV broadcasted an original "MW" television drama titled "MW Chapter 0: Akuma no Game". It set several months before the actual story in Tezuka's manga and features Tamaki Hiroshi and young rising actor Sato Takeru in leading roles. Like the movie, the drama is directed by Hitoshi Iwamoto.
Plot: The main character is a man named Takashi Morioka, who has lost his job and his home due to a recession. He ends up falling into a trap set by the diabolical Yuki Michio, and in order to protect the things important to him, he is forced to stain his hands in evil.
