Once again the Mets fail to put together 2 straight wins. Last night's game against the Phillies proved 2 things- #1 Pitch counts are ruining the sport and #2 Carlos Beltran is not a clean-up hitter. Johan Santana pitched a good game(2 runs 8 innings, but was taken out of the game because it was tied and he had thrown 95 pitches at that point. SO!!! When did pitchers become so fragile that they can't pitch 9 complete innings? Santana had only given up 2 runs and that was early in the game. He was cruising in the 7th and 8th, but a pitch count determined that he needed to go and Duaner Sanchez was to be the new pitcher. Sanchez pitches the bottom of the ninth and the Phillies score on a Shane victorino RBI single to win the game. It makes you wonder.....will the METS have a pitcher that throws a complete game this year? Carlos "I'm not clutch anymore" Beltran failed again to drive in runs in a big spot. the Mets had a golden opportunity to tack on some runs with the bases loaded and Beltran does the unthinkable- he strikes out looking. He is not a clean-up hitter!! Jerry Manuel please stop putting him in that spot. David wright is clearly the best hitter on the team and even though he is an ideal #3 hitter , he is much better in the 4 spot than Beltran. Game 2 is tonight and John Maine better bring his best stuff. This series is to big to lose. Lets hope the METS feel the same
