Here on this lens I will be slowly building a special page where Mac "Switchers" (yes it's true, there are so many people switching to Mac's these days, that a special word/name has been invented for it! "Switchers") and addicts such as yourself can go to, and find lots of cool free software for your new Mac. Software for business, productivity and for Fun.

Macintosh Software - Let's Start With WordProcessing Shall We?
Word WordProcessing Software is so abundant for the Mac that I can't cover them all. But here's a good start.
For word processor software there is of course Apple's own iWork 08 (at the time of this writing). But guess what? iWork cost's extra, about $80. Wow Apple is so stingy not including word processing in the price of the Computer right? Not so fast!Guess what? I bought an HP laptop for my wife cause she is in college and we figured she may be doing stuff that will require Windows compatible stuff. BUT!!! We had to pay extra for Microsoft Office....it cost $130 for the small version. That's about $50 more than iWork, and still not as cool (that means fun).
Lets introduce some super cool word processor programs that are totally free to download, and very powerful to boot. Hey, maybe even FUN!
But first ladies and gentlemen, a word from our sponsor.
CafePress Has Apple Logo Stuff Too!
I'll be coming out with some of my own Cool CafePress stuff
I'm putting the CafePress module here to remind me that I Really Really want to do some of my own designs with CafePress - Some day when I grow-up.
Two Great Answers to your Missing Mac Word Processor Problem
NeoOffice to the Rescuuuue, and don't forget Bean too!
Many of you have heard of "OpenOffice" I'm sure. But did you know that there is something that is even better? It's called "NeoOffice".NeoOffice is basically an upgraded version of OpenOffice. NeoOffice is better and faster because... OpenOffice needs a utility program called X11 in order to run on your Mac, but NeoOffice does not. That is the largest part of why NeoOffice operates much faster, lighter and more stable. Did I mention NeoOffice is better looking too?
And oh by the way, "The Neo" does just about everything Microsoft Office does. It will even save your files as "word" and/or .doc formats, and yes even PowerPoint, all on a Mac! But the best part is that it's free to download and use all you want...It's a serious kick-butt FREE complete Office Suite.
Later I'll be putting up links for you so that you can just click n go to download it. But for now, you'll find it real easy by Googling it.
Ok now, sometimes we don't need or even want all that power & Gusto! Right? Sometimes we just need a good, solid, but light, simple and easy to use word processor. But still yet powerful enough to hold it's own. Also right. Right? Now that's a tall order, difficult to fill! Fear not, you're in luck.
There is a program that does exactly that, (I hate using 2 "that's" together) that I am personally falling in love with. It's called "The Bean" (or maybe it's just "Bean"), and it's made especially for Macs! Bean has a little feature that I like for writing articles, as you type it displays the word count and even character count in real time at the bottom of the window. It is really Cool! I just love it.
Oops! Almost forgot...Do a Google search for the bean word processor and you should find it for free just like NeoOffice.
Update to this Post: Description of the "Bean" icon. >> The "Bean" icon looks like a Cup of Coffee, and what looks to me like a two-tone brown Credit Card sitting on a sheet of paper. (I just wanted to describe the "Bean" icon to you until I am able to put a picture here for you to SEE. That way, when you do a search for it, you'll be more confident that you found the right one. I hope this helps for now).

Mac Software | System Maintenance is Free Too!
Onyx is a VERY Cool System Maintenance Utiliy.
I got my first Mac back in 1997. I got my first OS X Mac in 2002. During all that time (almost 12 years from the time of this writing) I've had only One virus, and I've had only One total hard drive crash due to NOT using any preventative software! How many windows owners can say that?
Ok. I'm still not using any Virus or Spyware software yet (I know, shame on me). My trusty old Mac Tower G4 Dual 500 Ghz, with "Velocity Engine" and 1 gig ram (that was a crazy large amount of ram in 2001) however crashed so badly last year in summer of '07 that I had to reformat the drive....and ALL because I never ran any OS maintenance on it at all! It's simply amazing that it did very well for such a long time all on it's own with no help from me!
At the time I was dead broke but did not trust free System Utility software. Well, to fast forward a little bit, I happened to have found a little website called Pure-Mac.com or something like that. I found something he recommended called "OnyX" that was free to download. I got it, installed it, and have never used anything else since.
So in case you'd like to know, OnyX Built such a great reputation of excellence and reliability, that even the Official Apple website put the program on the Downloads section of their site. If "Apple" trust's it that much, it MUST be good! (Apple is Super Picky about their Mac Software, BIG TIME!). Besides I already know it's top notch.
So, If you're a Mac user, using any level of OS 10.1 or higher without any kinda System Tuner-upper maintenance software, then go to the Apple site and poke around until you find OnyX. And don't forget...it's totally FREE, COOL or What!
Two Things you need to know though...
1:) Make sure you get the right version for your specific OS! Such as - 10.1, 10.2.x, 10.3.x 10.tiger..oops I mean 10.4.x and now, as of late '08, Mac OS 10.5.x. Thing #2: Thou Shoult blurb me below when you get, and use OnyX so that you can tell me, and the other readers (that might be askeert of it too), that it had worked out so Coool just like I said it would. And also for the new Mac Converts (there are many already!) in the future will know.
Now Let Me see if I can Get a Pic of something up.
Bean The Word Processor
A Bean Graphic
So far this is the only Graphic/Picture of the Bean Word Processor I could find for now. I'll be back to fix it up later. Gotta take the kids Trick or Treating, YAY!! Since you read this far, you Must give us a Mac Software idea here.

Ok. If you learned about some Mac Software you didn't know about until you came here, you can get by with just saying "Thanks!" (or anything you want to say).

- Thanks guys for the posts! I feel a little more motivated to do even more!
How about a free website building software? I don't mean free b/c it's Trash, I'm talking like, in the same league! Almost as good as Dreamweaver. Considering the price difference, it's WAY better than DW. (hmmm, $400 or free? hmm which one is the best deal? 'Sarcasm Sarcasm' hehe)
