Madonna was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1958. She was raised a Catholic, and was allowed to take ballet classes as a child. Even though her mother died very young, when Madonna was 5 years old, her father soon remarried and she began her rebellious role by not accepting her stepmother as an influential part of her life. She was a very good student and dance student, and planned early on to pursue a career in dancing. She also loved acting, and cites Marilyn Monroe, among others, as her favorite actresses.

Many do not know that Madonna's career did not begin as a solo artist, but as a member of a band she co-founded with then-lover Dan Gilroy. Breakfast Club was successful, and helped launch Madonna into a solo career. She released her first album in 1982, at twenty four years old, and has since released dozens more albums, with many more to come. Although she has been harshly criticized by the Catholic church, including the Pope himself, for her sexual themes and often almost heretical videos, she was nonplussed and never changed her image to suit the ruling elite.

Madonna's latest endeavours have been mostly spiritually related. Although the majority of her career has been focused on her controversial sexual themes, both heterosexual and bisexual, she has begun a new chapter in her life that focuses more on the spiritual side of Madonna Ritchie. Perhaps this comes on the heels of a near death experience recently, when she broke the first bone she'd ever broken in her lifetime and discovered there was more to life, and that life was fleeting. Her role as a Kabbalah student angered many in both the Jewish and Catholic cultures, but, in usual Madonna fashion, she just keeps on studying and dedicating her life to learning the Kabbalah.
