Maine
My home state of Maine. Beautiful four seasons. Perhaps best known for it's beautiful fall foliage and coastal beaches. But Maine has lots of summer activities, being a coastal state with more coastal area than California! Beaches for swimming or just strolling along to collect shells. Lots of lakes and streams for fishing or just relaxing and having a picnic and enjoy the scenery, (but bring bug repellent for those mosquitoes)! Enjoy our country's first sunrise! Great ski areas for winter fun and lots of agricultural fairs, church suppers, boat excursions, farmers markets, summer strawberry picking, blueberry picking, fall apple picking, crafts fairs all summer and during the shopping holiday seasons, beautiful day trips along the coast or inland to the country to see the farm areas (my favorite)! The Old Port section near Portland's waterfront, has lots of funky shopping for clothes or gifts and artwork. Freeport, north of Portland, has lots of outlet shopping and world famous L.L.Bean's. Maine has several colleges, including the University of New England with beautiful beach views in Biddeford Pool. Enjoy the tidal pools along many of Maine's wonderful beaches, where you can take the kids to see many sea animals, such as the little Hermit crabs. But, please leave them in their natural habitat that they need to survive! You may be able to collect many shells, such as clams, mussels, angel shells, or sand dollars and starfish. But, again, if they are alive, leave them there on the beach, as that is their home! You'll see many seashore birds, especially sea gulls along Maine's coast. Try out Maine's world famous lobster or fried clams. At a lot of places in Maine, you can order up a whole seafood platter to try out the many different dishes of seafare that Maine has to offer. Try out the amusement parks at a lot of the southern Maine beaches, and get yourself and the kids a candied apple or cotton candy or salt water taffy. Maine~ The way life should be~ is our motto!
