Show appreciation for those in your life and you will strengthen your relationships.

How strong are the relationships in your life? What are you doing to show people you care? How do you keep in touch with the people that are important to you? There is a very simple, easy and fun way to keep in touch with everyone in your life; even if you haven't seen them in years. Don't let a day pass without letting someone know that you appreciate them.

Personal Relationships

When was the last time you told someone you care about how you feel about him/her? Was it a birthday? A Holiday? A special event?

Or was it a Tuesday or a Saturday?

Too often we let days, months, even years slip by without telling the important people in our lives, just how important they are to us. Some of us put it off, some of us think 'Oh, he knows how I feel' and some of us have a hard time saying it in person. Stop just
thinking about it, and take action. Don't let another
moment slip by. NO MORE EXCUSES.

Around this time last year (February 2009) I found myself at the end of a 12.5 year relationship. Even though it was a mutual, amicable break-up, it was still a lot to go through. So, imagine how it felt to get a 'thinking of you' card from my aunt who lives over 1000 miles away. Wow. I was so touched by this simple gesture. I will never forget how it felt. If you asked me today, I couldn't tell you what it said, unless I looked at it again. But that didn't matter. It was how it made me feel ... supported and loved.

The power of an unexpected card.

She didn't send me an email ... or leave me a voice mail ... and we all know the last thing I wanted to do at that point was talk on the phone about what was going on. So, she sent a card. How perfect.

Think about moments like this in your life. How would it have felt to receive an unexpected card? Pretty good, right? It's always nice to know that someone is thinking about you.

Most of our mail is either junk mail or bills. I think I read somewhere that currently, less than 3% of our mail is personal. YIKES! So imagine yourself going through all your bills, notices, advertisements and there it is ... an envelope addressed to you ... from someone you know. Don't you smile? Don't you get a little excited that someone sent you something other than a statement? Then you open it up to find a wonderful greeting card with a heartfelt, personal message inside. That would change your day, right? Your entire mood and attitude would change. Would you post the card on your fridge or your mantle? Maybe. That's the power of the unexpected card.

Now, reverse rolls ...

You are the card sender. How great does it feel to think that you could send someone a card and it could change their entire day. How great does it feel to know that you put a smile on their face? How wonderful is it that this person now knows that they are a special person in your life. And it's only a random Tuesday in February. No birthday or special occasion. You sent it just because you were thinking of them.

This is the stuff that can improve your relationships and change lives. Think about it. Think about the ripple effect that can have in the world. You send someone a heartfelt card. They are pleasantly surprised and feel great. They decide to send a card to someone. And it ripples on and on ...

All because of a greeting card.

Powerful, huh?

Definitely. At my office, I keep a small drawer filled with a variety of thank-you cards, and I send one out every time I get a referral. Or, if someone does something especially nice for me. . . or if I know a certain person needs encouragement, I will send out a card. Only takes a moment. Thanks for the excellent Lens, Brian.
