How to Make Real Money with Your Favorite Home Made Recipes

Your recipes really can earn you an extra income when you combine them with the power of Squidoo.com.

Squidoo makes it easy to design (free) web pages (called lenses) about your favorite recipes. (or any other topic)

I'm a WAHM who has been successfully earning money with my recipes for over a year now and I've decided to spill the beans and give you my recipe for successfully earning money using only Squidoo and a favorite recipe.

First, You'll Need to Grab a Squidoo Lens

If You're Already A Member You Can Skip This Part

The first step to making money with your recipe is to grab a Squidoo lens and to pick a great name for its URL address.

Try to pick a basic name like:
http://www.squidoo.com/birthdaycupcakes
(Sorry, you can't have that one, it's already mine)

If you don't already have a Squidoo.com account, you can sign up for free, by clicking here.

Sure, I'll get a bonus if you sign up through this link, but so will you. And once you have your own Squidoo account, you can ask people to join too!
(You see, we're making money already!)

Visit the Newbie Guide to Squidoo for more information about how to get started with your first lens.

The 5 Most Important Ingredients

How to Enhance Your Chances

I've listed the top 5 things that I do to make my recipe lenses successful. These things are what I feel are the most important basics to my recipe lenses.

Once you have these 5 ingredients in place, feel free to further personalize and design your recipe lens and make it your own.

All of my recipe lenses are designed differently but they ALL contain these 5 ingredients.

1. A Great Recipe

Of course you'll need a great recipe

The most important thing on any recipe lens is a great home made (that means you own it) recipe. You can't just go willy nilly pulling recipes from published cookbooks, blogs, or other people's web sites.

Your recipe must be original. Plagiarism is not allowed, and violators will be penalized.

That said, we all know that many people make certain recipes in similar ways to many other people. Is that plagiarism? No. But copying somone else's work is!

No one can copyright the title of a recipe, so you are free to use any title you like but when it comes to giving the directions, you need to write your recipe down in your own words.

Sharing personal tips within the recipe itself is a helpful way of making sure that your recipes are written in your own words.

P.S. If you're planning to make a lens about your Mom's Famous Meatloaf recipe, it's probably a good idea to get her permission first too.

2. Amazon Modules

In order to make money with your recipes, you'll need to sell something on your lens.

I've found the best modules to use for recipe lenses are the Amazon or Amazon spotlight modules. You can use others, I've just had the most success with these two.

The best things to sell are things that go well with your recipe that you can personally recommend.

Don't go crazy and put tons of merchandise on your lens.

I've noticed that my best earning lenses are the ones where I've featured only a few products that I really love.

Giada's Family Dinners

Amazon Price: $21.45 (as of 07/14/2009)Buy Now

This is an example of something I like to sell because it happens to be one of my favorite cookbooks.

I know it is a high quality book with beautiful pictures and easy to follow delicious recipes. When I talk about it on a lens I know what I'm talking about because I use this book all the time.

If you don't own the product you are promoting, reasearch the product so that you can tell your readers why you want that kitchen product.

Your knowledge and passion will show through in your writng, as will your ignorance. Taking a few minutes to study the merchandise will pay off royaly in royalties!

Cookbooks work well with food lenses but so do kitchen utensils and small appliances. Always choose products that are specific to your recipe.

3. Royalty-free Pictures

Pictures of the food and ingredients will help make your recipe lens more appealing and appetizing to the general public.

You can use photos that you've taken yourself or look for royalty-free photos online.

Be sure to use a Creative Commons search when looking for photos online. Stealing pictures is considered plagiarism too!

Allposters.com offers an affiliate program that you can join that works perfectly with your Squidoo lenses. You can find great pictures AND possibly make even more money from your lens.

When inserting Allposters.com pictures into a lens, the text/write module works best.

All of the photos found on this page were supplied by Allposters.com.

The following is an advertisement about the Allposters.com affiliate program. I really love their program and feel good about recommending it to you.

4. Add a Link List

This might sound crazy but in order for your recipe lens to be successful, you'll want to add a link list of other recipes similar to your own.

By adding a link list, you're not only helping your readers find what they are looking for; you're also helping the search engines find your recipe page.

Here's an example: You'll notice that my links match the title of this lens.
