If you are starting your business on a "shoe string" budget the best way is to use free traffic strategies.

Here are some of the best to get you started...

1. Use the free traffic generators found on this lens (you'll see a link " Free Targeted Traffic Generators" in the "Links" section.

2. Use Blog Comments. Find blogs related to your topic and leave useful comments with a backlink to your site. Do Google search: Topic + Blog

3. Answer Questions. Answer questions related to your site's topic at answers.yahoo.com. Be sure to put a link to your site in each of your answers.

4. Join Forums. Join a handful of the most popular forums that deal with your site's topic and become an active poster. Include a link to your site in your signature.

5. Write testimonials. If you are happy with a product or service you have used, write an unbiased testimonial and trade it for a back link to your site.

6. Start a blog on blogger.com and a blog on wordpress.com, if you don't have them, link them to your site (Squidoo lens) and submit them to the hundreds of free blog directories. This will get you plenty of quality traffic as long as you keep your blogs updated.

7. Post ads with a link to your site on all the free classified ad sites you can find, such as craigslist.org. The best ones will allow you to post a live link. But don't neglect the other ones. If your ad is well written, people will go out of their way and type your url into their browser. Of course you must post in the appropriate category.

8. Use email signatures. Write an interesting email signature that includes a link to your site, and use it with every outgoing business email you send.

9. Use Social Networking sites. Start a page on MySpace.com or Yuwie, or any other high page rank social book-marking site you can find and link them to your site.

10. Write a crap load of articles and use your blog address or squidoo lens address in the bio box. Article marketing does two (2) things for you and your business. The first is that the articles, when submitted to top article directories, will drive loads of free targeted traffic to your page and second the articles help portray you as an expert in your field or niche.

While all this looks like a full time job, remember, you don't have to use them all at once. Just pick the one you feel most comfortable with and start there - now. Invest 30 minutes to an hour daily in building your free traffic. Then, go to your next favorite technique and so on.

I'm not going to tell you that you'll be rich next month or in 90 days because it isn't going to happen. But, if you have more time than money, if you have the desire to earn money online and IF you are willing to work you can make money online even if you're broke and don't have a website.
