To be honest I don't remember how I came to HubPages! I started fulltime on the web, trying to earn an income, in September 07 and within a month I found HubPages. At the same time I revamped my existing blog, started a new blog and also later on added a blog to an existing website! I find now that I struggle to keep my own blogs going - mainly because I keep on coming back to HubPages. So what is the appeal of HubPages?

People using both sites are trying to drive more traffic to their own web pages, or make money from home, or have a web presence without their own site.

I'm not that long on Associated Content, to say much about it. They have a very interesting Upfront Payment option, and it's a good site to publish "audio" or "slideshows" on.

Helium

"Do you know home remedies to cure a cold, how to home-school a child, or the best places to dine in your hometown? Share your expertise! When you write at Helium, you help inform millions, earn money, get recognized and build your portfolio." - Helium is indeed a "marketplace" for online writers: there are writing contests here, and journalism awards, and a lot of "writer resources"... But again, you have to read - and rate! - all those articles written by other authors... and that isn't always fun! And if you are writing on Helium, there are no nice video-, photo-, news-, links- and other layout toys, no great tools like you have on Squidoo, Triond or the HubPages. And just dull plain text, that isn't really what the web is all about... is it?
