Maleny: mountain beauty and stunning views
We have been going to Maleny for many years to enjoy this superb mountain location. Our holiday trips included camping out at the Maleny Folk Festival. Maleny has the best of both worlds - beautiful mountains and rainforests located 30 minutes from Mooloolaba Beach and Maroochydore. It is also one and half hours from Brisbane. Driving the Maleny ranges reminds me so much of travelling in the northern island of New Zealand.

Touring by motorbike across the Blackall Range, Maleny
I have strong memories of riding pillion passenger on my wife's Moto Guzzi 650 as we wound our way across the top of the green mountain range at Maleny. To our right as we headed for Montville was Mooloolaba Beach in the distance and on our left lakes and grass covered hills and mountains.
The scene was unbelievabvle and no picture can do it justice - you just have to experience it yourself! Visitors from New Zealand have likened the panorama vista to views that they see in their home country.

Maleny: gateway to the Blackall Ranges
As you drive along the crest of the Blackall Range from Maleny heading north, you come across Montville, noted for its arts and crafts (particularly pottery)and its great restaurants and cafes with 180 degree panoramic views of the Sunshine Coast. It's a superb spot for a "devonshire tea" (hot scones with jam and cream).
Further along the crest is Kondalilla National Park at Mapelton, home to the spectacular Kondalilla Falls where Skene Creek drops 90m into a rainforest valley. The National Park is a cool mountain retreat with many picnic spots and an important refuge for many native animals and plants, including the boastful peacocks. The park provides access to walking tracks which take you to Kondalilla Falls and swimming holes surrounded by tropical rainforest.

Celebrating wedding anniversary in Maleny and Montville
Maleny and Montville provide a real haven for a honeymoon or wedding anniversary celebration. My wife and I decided to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary in Montville, which is a couple of kilometres from Maleny. The route between the two towns takes you across the top of the range with views of the Sunshine Coast as you travel towards Maleny.
