Maná: A Voice in Our Time
Photo Left: Chico Mendez
Mana's music has a lovely raw edge to it. They can perform a range of styles and make you believe them all. Their songs tell stories. The stories are about things we know and have experienced or probably will experience, They sing about joy and loss and confusion and heartbreak and elation. This lens lets us bask in Mana's music and gives us a way to connect while we bask. The music videos are of live performances where possible. The lyrics are printed here so you can follow and have something to refer to for using Babelfish translator or Wordreference online dictionary. If you can get tickets to a Mana concert you can come here to practice some tunes before you go.

A treat from AMAR ES COMBATIR: Bendito tu Luz with appearance by Juan Luis Guerra
Bendita tu luz with Juan Luis Guerra with Spanish Lyrics
Song: Bendita tu luz
Bendita mirada,
Bendita mirada desde el alma, tu mirada,
Bendita, bendita, bendita mirada,
Bendita tu alma y bendita tu luz.
Tu mirada, oh, oh, oh,
Digo es tan bendita tu luz, amor, amor,
Bendito el reloj y bendito el lugar,
Benditos tus besos cerquita del mar,
Y tu mirada, amor, amor,
Bendita sea tu, presencia.

Labios Compartidos Lyrics in Spanish
Compartidos Labios is Mana's Superhit and the Hoards of Fans Loved it on the U.S. Tour
Labios Compartidos lyrics
Amor fugado, me tomas,
Me dejas, y me exprimes,
Vuelve a mi tu boca y provoca,
Labios compartidos, labios divididos
(mi amor)
Yo no puedo compartir tus labios
Y comparto el engaño y comparto mis dÃas
(y el dolor)
Yo no puedo compartir tus labios
Oh amor, oh amor, compartido

Labios Compartidos Lyrics in Spanish continued....
Vuelve a mà tu boca, vuelve,
Labios compartidos, labios divididos
(Mi amor)
Yo no puedo compartir tus labios
Y comparto el engaño y comparto mis dÃas
(y el dolor)
Yo no puedo compartir tus labios
OH amor, OH amor, compartido
Que me parta un rayo,
Que me entierre al olvido
....(mi amor)...
Pero no puedo más compartir tus labios,
Compartir tus besos
Labios compartidos.

In 1991, two new members joined Mana, Iván González and César "Vampiro" López, on keyboards and guitar respectively.
The following year they wrote ¿Dónde Jugarán los Niños?, and this time la musica de Mana was fully embraced by all of Mexico.
They finally enjoyed success in the most important country of all- their own. Again, a Mana tour went on 268-concert triumph in a dozen and a half countries.
In 1994, Iván González and César López (who was later replaced by Sergio VallÃn) left Mana. But the trio continued to play and soon released a new album titled Mana en Vivo.
Three years later, the band released Sueños LÃquidos, which was recorded in Puerto Vallarta. The album became a hit in 36 countries simultaneously.

Mana and the Green Hats
Mana: Before the Videos, the Tours, the Awards and the Love.
Mana started its career Guadalajara, Mexico, about three decades ago and they are still very influential in music. Their work is a mixture of hard rock, calypso, reggae, pop, funk-rock, and Latin tunes.
Name changes and more name changes.
The history of Green Hat begins in 1978, when a group of young musicians from Guadalajara decide to meet to play covers of groups they admired; like The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. It was formed by Jose Fernando (Fher) Olvera voice, Gustavo Orozco (electrical guitar) and the Calleros brothers: Juan Diego (bass), Ulises (electrical guitar), and Abraham (drums).
Initially they were called The Green Hat Spies.
That was soon shortened to Green Hat.
Not long after the band decided to return to their Latin roots, changing to its name to Sombrero Verde,an exact translation of Green Hat, and changing its repertoire to Spanish.
In 1981 Sombrero Verde recorded its eponomosly named album.
In 1983 followed the second album A Ritmo de Rock. A couple of years later the band reorganized under the name of Mana (which means a "supernatural force" in Polynesian). Fher Olvera became the lead vocalist of the group, brothers Juan Diego and Ulises Calleros played the guitars, and Alex "El Animal" was on drums. They released a new album Mana in 1986 which did well in some cities in Mexico but the nation did not yet universally embrace la musica de Mana.
Falta Amor was released in 1990. It coasted for a year then the single, Rayando el Sol became a smash hit. It went Triple Platinum and sold almost a million copies.
Mana toured more that 250 concerts in Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.

Mana 2007 Tour Leg 2 Creating Hot Buzz. Leg 1 a Huge Success.
Why so Hot?
In 2002, Revolución de Amor, the band's fifth album, was released. It scooped Mana's fourth Grammy win.
In 2006, Mana produced a sixth album called Amar Es Combatir. It sold over 60,000 copies propelling
it to #4 on Billboard's top 200. Stores had a difficult time keeping up with the demand for Mana's CD's and music videos. And all this happened during the album's first week. The new single, Labios Compartidos reached the top of the music charts.
At the 2006 Latin Grammy Awards, Mana received the President's Award for their musical accomplishments. The same year, Mana received the awards for Best Video for the song Labios Compartidos and for Best Rock Artist at Latin MTV Awards.
"Oh Yeah!" And they also scooped best rock artist.
All this has set up Mana for a hugely successful US tour.
The 2007 Concert Tour Leg 2 begins in Hidalgo on August 28 at the Dodge Stadium. The tour is already generating a lot of buzz on the heels of a successful first leg, which ended in April. Ticket sales are brisk as are sales of CD's, music videos, t-shirts et al. Stay tuned for more details.

Blessed be the place, and the reason to be there.
Blessed be the coincidence.
Blessed be the clock that made us be there on time.
Blessed be your presence.
[chorus]
Thank God for making us meet on the way,
And for taking this loneliness away from me.
Blessed be the light of your eyes%u2026 from the soul.
Blessed be those eyes that first looked away, pretended to ignore me,
And then suddenly looked my way.
[chorus]
Divine Glory, this luck, this good shot, and of finding you in the middle of the way.
Glory to heavens that I found you, that you took away my loneliness and coincided with my destiny. Our same destiny.
[chorus]
Blessed be your eyes, blessed be your soul, and your light.
Blessed be the clock, and the place, and your kisses by the sea
