One terrific teacher
Maybe that's why I thoroughly enjoy the manner in which Mark Rashid writes his books; he gives you the exact amount of information you need to start those wheels turning. His books are not laid out in the traditional format of most horse training books, but are instead set up as a collection of well written stories and anecdotes that chronicle his own lessons with horses and the resulting epiphanies.
Even better? He includes some of his own mental moments (he calls it "warts and all"), which I can definitely appreciate :o)
Five fabulous reads...
And yep, they're all terrific!
Eenie meinie miney moe...
I really love 'em all, you know!
I suppose if I were to pick one book above the others, I would have to choose his most recent book: Whole Heart, Whole Horse. This book seemed to delve even deeper into daily events and issues that can shape and/or alter a horse's behavior than its predecessors. It covers some of the most important issues to a horse: peace of mind, dependability, boundaries, and trauma, whereas most trainers focus heavily on issues that are important to the rider.I am always impressed by Mr. Rachid's willingness to include his personal foibles and feelings in his writing; it makes him extremely relateable (particularly to those of us that mess up on a regular basis :o)
"When we do something with our horse that has an undesirable outcome, is it a mistake or an opportunity for growth?"

- I am currently reading Mark's book entitled Horses Never Lie. Excellent. I look forward to reading more of his work. I appreciate an approach that works with a horse and moves away from dominance. Very interesting video. Thanks for this review.
