The Market America Unfranchise® Home Business Opportunity

I recently received a blog comment asking me if Market America is just another Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) Business. This exact question has also come up during several recent phone calls I have had with prospective business partners. I love it when I am asked this, because the answer is so fun to deliver as it is such a welcome relief to potential interested business owners.

The answer is a resounding NO! Market America was founded 14 years ago by JR Ridinger, who at one point, was a high six figure earner with what was then called Amway.

After being involved in the MLM business world for so long, he decided to start Market America and in the process incorporated all of the good things about the network marketing MLM world, but got rid of all of the bad things.

I do not expect you to just take my word for it. I will try to go into just enough detail here so that you can confidently understand the stark difference between the Market America business model, and that of most MLM companies.

Market America is a product and service brokerage and internet marketing company. They provide products and services from many large billion dollar industries. Most MLM companies represent a specific narrow family of products and/or services. Some examples are Mary Kay with cosmetics, Herbalife with health and nutrition, Pre-Paid Legal with legal services, ACN with telecommunication services, etc. Market America can expand and contract with the consumer demand, and easily bring new products and services to market that our customers tell us they want, and can also easily remove underperforming items.

Market America's compensation system is a patented system that only requires business owners to develop 2 teams, and only personally sponsor 2 people to make significant residual income over time. Statistics have proven that the average business owner can only sponsor 2.8 business partners, so JR thought it only made sense to make the minimum requirement only 2 personally sponsored partners.

Conversely, MLM business owners must develop as many different teams as possible in order to make significant residual income. Because the multiple teams are placed side by side to maximize income payouts, they end up competing with each other for new business partners and customers, not to mention the amount of time that is required to create, teach, and manage all of the different teams.

Market America's compensation plan pays us based on 100% of our entire teams distribution volume - down to infinity. This is unheard of. There is no need to say anything else - short and sweet.

Most MLM companies, if not all, only pay the business owners a certain percentage of their distribution volume down to a certain level, and then a smaller percentage of volume down to a certain level below that, and then eventually stops paying on further volume growth. This type of pay structure is exactly what inhibits "deep" growth, and encourages "wide" growth, which means many shallow teams.

I am sure most MLM companies would like to do away with the current old, inefficient, and unmotivating compensation plans, but they cannot. They have been established for so long now, and too many people are entrenched for the companies to attempt positive change.

Market America business owners can accumulate their business volume for an entire year before it is "purged". Even at that point, it is only removed as it came on, meaning that it is not all removed all at once. If a distributor misses the point target to receive a commission check during a given pay cycle, no big deal. Their points will just continue to accumulate so that they have a pretty good chance of getting paid after the next cycle. What this means is that with a Market America business, it is not a matter of if you will get paid, but more a question of when you will get paid.

In the MLM arena, the volume business owners manage to accumulate during their pay cycle, which is typically a month, is completely purged to zero regardless of whether or not they hit a commission payout level. Think about the scenario where a new business owner jsut missed the point level at which they would earn a commission check, and then their volume is erased and reset to zero to begin accumulating all over again. What a tough row to hoe so to speak!

The Market America pay cycle occurs weekly, and they have not missed issuing their commission checks once in their 14 year history. Check are issued weekly to imrove the cash flow flexibility of the business owners.

Most MLM companies pay their distributors monthly. Only issuing commission checks on a monthly basis does not make it any easier for the average person trying to break away from their reliance on their 9-5 type job.

There are actually more positive differences between Market America and typical Multi-Level Marketing companies, but I think I will stop here to prevent the length of this post from getting too long.

The annual Leadership Conference in Miami last week concluded with some of the biggest news in Market America's 15 year history. CEO James Ridinger announced Market America's initiative to create the ultimate online shopping destination using Google Technology.
