Martial Arts Training for fitness

life time of fitness through martial arts training

Most of us, at some time in our life, have felt the urge to undertake some sort of fitness routine. The wish may arise after a bout of illness has laid us low, or over-indulgence over the Christmas period has had much the same effect or, having been inveigled into taking part in a game of football, we find ourselves breathless long before we even get to the halfway line.
And once having made that original decision, we have to make another. Do we shuffle off to the gym, sign a years' contract and spend time pounding away, going nowhere on a treadmill? Or do we buy a new pair of trainers and jog around the streets hoping that it doesn't start to rain? Or buy a fitness DVD, wear out the living room carpet and risk breaking your partner's favourite ornament? Whichever option we choose, most of them suffer from two main drawbacks - boredom from repetition and the probability, unless one is both careful and conscientious, that only certain parts of the body are exercised, to the detriment of general fitness. So what do we do? - Forget the whole idea and revert back to being a couch potato, or just indulge in the usual New Year or pre-holiday blitz before apathy sets in? - No. The answer is simple. Find something to do that will keep you interested and give you a good level of general fitness. - Choose a sport!
And what better sport than martial arts?
You aren't out in the rain. You don't get covered in mud. It will give you confidence and, if you take it seriously, will give you goals to achieve. It will give you the ability to defend yourself, improve your general level of fitness, enhance flexibility, improve your coordination and introduce you to a new circle of like-minded friends. And it's family-friendly too. All can take part from granddads to grandkids as young as four years old.
So, if you are wanting to get fit and have fun, why not give it a try. Martial arts aren't for everyone but, until you try it, you won't know.
