Work that Mary Kay Party
Mary Kay parties are quite possibly the most important thing for a consultant. Parties can be used to spread the word about your business, can help you sell product people will love and can give you the chance to share the Mary Kay opportunity with others.

And Your Response
1. I'm too busy.
"I love doing business with busy people. You're the ones who get things done and you're always so prepared. What if we set a tentative date?"
2. My husband won't let me.
A. "What if he knew you were going to get your Mary Kay purchases for free? I can help you earn it. I bet he'd love knowing you earned the products instead of paying for them."
B. "What if you could do it at my house?"
3. My house is a mess.
A. "You'll only be inviting two or three of your own friends. You wouldn't do any special cleaning for them normally, would you?"
B. "What if you could do it at my house?"
C. "Pick a room you want to do the party in and I'll help you clean up. No one will need to see anywhere else in your house."
4. My kids are home.
"If you can find a babysitter I'll have a free gift for her. Would that be a solution?"
5. I've already had a Mary Kay facial."
A. "But you've never had one with me! I will make this product look fabulous on you."
B. "Well then you know how much fun it was. Don't you want to do that again?"
6. All my friends have had a facial before.
"Great! Then they'll be familiar with the basics. I can give them all a glamour class and we can do full color makeovers."
7. I use another brand and I love it.
"That's fine. Since you're obviously interested in skin care, and that is a great product, I'd value your opinon. I'd love to know how Mary Kay compares to your current brand."
8. I don't know anyone.
"If you invite one friend and ask her to bring a friend you'll have a class. Don't forget relatives and family friends."

Fish Bowl-, Each woman writes the name of 10 friends and their phone numbers on 10 slips of paper. She places her own name on the back. The names are placed into a fish bowl. The consultant will later use the fish bowl to call each person and see if she would be interested in a Mary Kay consultation. For each person that says yes, the person who recommended them gets a gift, discount, etc.

Closing the Deal
And Making Her Happy
1. Make sure each person filled out a customer profile card.
2. Make sure she had fun. Also, find out what product she liked the most.
3. Ask what she would buy if money were no object.
4. Use the profile card to tell them what other products would be great for them. Example: Favorite product was the medium coverage foundation so they are probably already buying it. Their profile indicates they have dry skin. Tell them about the Miracle Set and how it can take care of dry skin problems and make the foundation go on even smoother.
5. Script: "Let's go ahead and book your color consultation. What works better for you? (Date) or (Date). We could go ahead and get you free product if you want to invite the ladies you wrote down during the Name Game/Fish Bowl. Is there any reason why we couldn't pamper your friends after your personal color appointment?"
6. Tell her about any deals you have going on before you finish adding up the cost of her products. Make up a deal if she seemed interested in something, but reluctant. Example: She really liked the Miracle Set, but acted like it was too expensive. Tell her you're doing a 20% discount on the set for this party only.
7. Finish adding up her items, write a receipt and bag the product. If you carry business cards write down the date and time of her appointment on the back and give it to her. Do NOT put it in the bag.

- Great tips. This lens has a lot of great "back-to-basics" tips. I held a party recently where I went back-to-basics and sold over $700 to four people and had 2 bookings. These ideas work. Thank you.

- Wow! You guys must have gotten stuck with a greedy director- they are out there in EVERY industry. It's sad. But don't let it discourage you! Find a director who does things right and lives by the Golden Rule. I leave you with a quote: BE the change you want to SEE!
