Help For Amaya - Fighting Cancer and Winning

It occurred to me that while I am trying to raise funds to help my granddaughter Amaya heal from medulloblastoma, some people, probably most, myself included until it touched my family, have no idea what medulloblastoma is.

The definition of medulloblastoma is: A malignant brain tumor that begins in the lower part of the brain and that can spread to the spine or to other parts of the body. Medulloblastomas are a type of primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET).

Malignant is a word you don't want to hear when being told your child/grandchild/loved one has cancer because that usually means the cancerous cells have spread to other parts of the body.

Now, as if that weren't scary enough, I was then told Amaya had high risk anaplastic medulloblastoma. Anaplastic means cancer cells that divide rapidly and have little or no resemblance to normal cells. Add the words "high risk" and it sounds even worse.

I am still doing my research into Amaya's condition, including the chemotherapy drugs she is taking, the radiation treatment she is receiving and the clinical trial she is part of. All this and trying to make sure she has the basic fundamentals of living - a roof over her head, food for her and her siblings, home schooling to keep her mind sharp, support for her mom and siblings who also need to be encouraged and uplifted, and a myriad of other challenges being faced by the family right now.

Sometimes I think it's a daunting task, but I know Grammy and Grandpa and even great-grandma are up to the task, especially with God's help and guidance!

In my daily quest to help my granddaughter Amaya, I came across this eBook which totally captivated my attention. So....it's now in the hands of Amaya's mom and we are praying this will be useful in helping Amaya heal from brain cancer (medulloblastoma)!

"The Old Paths" was written by a retired minister who lives in Tennessee but as I read it, it made me smile to think of such things. I'm so concerned about uplifting Amaya, her mom, brother and sisters, sometimes my family has to remind me to take care of me :)

I liked the old paths, when

Moms were at home.
Dads were at work.
Brothers went into the army.
And sisters got married BEFORE having children!

Crime did not pay;
Hard work did;
And people knew the difference.

Moms could cook;
Dads would work;
Children would behave.

Husbands were loving;
Wives were supportive;
And children were polite.

Women wore the jewelry;
And Men wore the pants.
Women looked like ladies;
Men looked like gentlemen;
And children looked decent.

People loved the truth,
And hated a lie;
They came to church to get IN,
Not to get OUT!

Hymns sounded Godly;
Sermons sounded helpful;
Rejoicing sounded normal;
And crying sounded sincere.

Cursing was wicked;
Drugs were for illness;
And divorce was unthinkable.

The flag was honored;
America was beautiful;
And God was welcome!

We read the Bible in public;
Prayed in school;
And preached from house to house
To be called an American was worth dying for;
To be called a Christian was worth living for;
To be called a traitor was a shame!

Preachers preached because they had a message;
And Christians rejoiced because they had the
VICTORY!

Preachers preached from the Bible;
Singers sang from the heart;
And sinners turned to the Lord to be SAVED!

A new birth meant a new life;
Salvation meant a changed life;
Following Christ led to eternal life.

Being a preacher meant you proclaimed the word
of God;
Being a deacon meant you would serve the Lord;
Being a Christian meant you would live for
Jesus;
And being a sinner meant someone was praying for
you!

Laws were based on the Bible;
Homes read the Bible;
And churches taught the Bible.

God was worshiped;
Christ was exalted;
And the Holy Spirit was respected..

Church was where you found Christians
on the Lord's day, rather than in the garden,
on the creek bank, on the golf course,
Or being entertained somewhere else.

I still like the old paths the best!
