Rachel's Creative Journal

I love writing textiles e-books- you may already have come across some of my other books either on my website or here, on Squidoo. Whilst brainstorming the idea of new e-books to write I came upon the idea of keeping a creative journal- something that's far more in depth than anything I put on my blog.

Since then, I've been keeping a Creative Journal (since October 2008) to record all my creative ideas and to push myself to be creative every day or at least as often as possible.

This journal will be filled with ideas, inspiration, work in progress photos, images of finished objects and mini tutorials.

This e-book journal will be available to buy soon.

Find out more and see some sneaky peeks of my creative journal below and feel free to share information about your journals.

About the Book

Technical info about my Creative Journal.

Rachel's Creative Journal is coming soon.

It will be available October/November 2009.

This is a creative journal as well as a "How- To" Textiles E-Book.

It will be packed full of Eye Candy!

All of my books are in Acrobat PDF Format.

Join me as I record all my ideas, inspiration and finished creative projects in a year of crafting.

Sneaky Peek

A sneaky peek at some of the images in my Creative Journal.

Many of the images in my journal are captured in cute polaroid form.

The embroidery fragment below was used in my "How to make a Textiles Wrap" book. The story wall hanging is a "map" I'm making based on a novel I'm currently writing. You can find out more about Paul's sweater in the lens "Sweater of Love" and Dark Wing is a freeform knitting project I was playing around with earlier this year.

Thumbnails

A three page spread.

This is an example of three pages I've recently included in my journal- the layout may change at some point as I'm planning to fiddle about with it a little once I've written the whole year up.

This thumbnail shows a digital doodle of some textiles wraps, a digital collage I was using to help me with some creative writing and a selection of close-ups of some of my textiles pieces.

Doodle for a Russian Doll

Digitally-coloured doodle.

This is one of the digital doodles I've included in my Creative Journal. I make a lot of these doodles when I'm trying to come up with ideas of pieces to make.

I'm planning to make some kind of simple cloth doll from this design at some point.

This is a doodle from my Creative Journal.

After I wrote my e-book "How to make a Textiles Wrap" I decided I wanted to play around with making some more wraps. This is one of the designs I'm thinking about producing.

Places and Events

Sources of inspiration.

As well as noting down my creative processes and the things I make I also make a note of places I've been. This is because inspiration can come from anywhere you go- this is why journalling is important, so that you create a book that triggers new ideas for you.

These images are from a D-Day and Air & Classic Car Event I recently went to.

Doodle for a Crochet Shrug

Digitally-coloured doodle.

One of the things I wanted to learn this year was freeform crochet and knitting. This doodle is an idea I had for making a free-form shrug.
