Metal Roofing Materials Selecting The Right One
For the past several decades, metal roofing materials have constantly been the top choice for many homes and buildings all over the world. This consistent popularity is due to the admirable characteristics of metal when it comes to durability and reliability. There are a number of different metal roofing materials that home builders can use these days, but they are all grouped into five main categories according to composition. Each of these types of metal roofing materials have distinctive qualities that will help you determine which is the right one to use for your home.
1. Aluminum
This is the most commonly used of all metal roofing materials, due largely to its low cost. However, being the cheapest of the metal roofing materials does not necessarily mean that it is of low quality. In fact, aluminum is quite sturdy and can last for several decades. As with many other metal roofing materials, aluminum needs to be painted over every year or so in order to preserve its appearance and to prevent corrosion.
2. Regular Steel
Of all the metal roofing materials, steel is the most resilient against any weather conditions. It is also the heaviest one, and this makes for a rather tricky installation process. Also, like many other metal roofing materials, steel is prone to rust so you have to apply a fresh coat of paint on it annually as a preventive measure
3. Stainless Steel
These metal roofing materials are very expensive but are very good investments. Stainless steel is completely resistant to rust and requires very low maintenance. You don't even have to paint it. It also has an attractive appearance that gives any building a contemporary feel.
4. Copper
Many experts on metal roofing materials agree that copper is one of the most attractive roofing materials available. Its rich hue exudes an air of magnificence and can definitely add to the retail value of any home. It is also very durable, rust-proof and flexible, which makes its installation very easy.
However, copper is probably the most expensive of all metal roofing materials not only because of its high purchase price, but also because of the high maintenance that it needs. In order to preserve its signature coloring from damages caused by the sun, you have to give it special care and maintenance.
5. Alloys
Alloys are manufactured by blending two or more kinds of metal roofing materials, resulting in a very hardy substance that is among the strongest of all metal roofing materials. However, alloys can be quite costly as well.
Now that you are aware of the characteristics of the various kinds of metal roofing materials, making a selection can be a little bit easier for you.
Still, your final choice will really depend on your personal taste and preferences. Even if you have already chosen the metal roofing materials that will be perfect for your home, you still have to determine the colors and design that will work well with the rest of the house.
