You Want Thrills? Michael Crichton's Books or Movies Can Provide That!
Whether it's bioengineered and cloned dinosaurs, intelligent nanoparticles, space-borne mutating viruses, diamond-mines guarded by mutant gorillas, airplane crash investigations, time-travel by archeologists, or robotic cowboys, or climate change and global warming explanations, Michael Crichton could spin a wild and page-turning story.
Crichton used his background as a trained medical doctor and his extensive scientific studies to provide convincing settings for his adventures. In fact, one of his first block-buster novels, which was later made into a movie (and a later remake), "The Andromeda Strain", was written while he was still in med school. While in Med School, he wrote under the pen names of John Lange, Jeffery Hudson, and Michael Douglas (jointly with his brother).
Michael Crichton passed away from cancer on November 4, 2008 at the age of 66. His further contributions to the world of science and science fiction literature and movies will be greatly missed. See the listings below to see only a partial display of the many different works of literature and other media he produced.
His next novel (name not revealed yet) will be published on May 4, 2009--after being previously scheduled for release on December 2, 2008.

Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, The Sphere, State of Fear, Airframe...
My first experience with Michael Crichton's imagination was watching the movie "Andromeda Strain" on an old black & white television at my folk's home in New Mexico when I was about 13 years old. That movie scared the mess out of me. The next time I encountered Crichton's imagination was when I took my 7-year-old kid to watch Jurassic Park nearly 25 years later. That movie scared the mess out of both of us! Since then, I've watched most of the other movies based on Crichton's books and I've read all of his fiction works. He's an inspiration to us science majors who would also like to try our hand at writing.
The A&E Cable TV network recently released a 4-hour miniseries (on the Sci-Fi Channel) based on the Crichton's book "Andromeda Strain"--the series produced by Ridley Scott and Tony Scott stars Benjamin Bratt, Ricky Schroder, Eric McCormack, Daniel Dae Kim, Viola Davis, Andre Braugher, Ted Whittall, and Christa Miller. With more advanced technologies in special effects and digital techniques, this version may bring more thrills than the 1971 version (although the 1971 version was creepy enough!).

Living on Guam is what now "defines" me. It was such a dramatic difference in my life and outlook on things that there's no way I'd be the same...
