Appreciating the Middle East
The height of the American versus Iraq war lead people to see the Middle East in a different light. What used to be a place where oil is known to come from has now unfortunately earned the tag of "terrorism." In reality, the Middle East is not at all just that--all war. Although this part of the world is largely composed of Islamic countries, there is a lot that you need to know about the Middle East which you might not have thought possible before.
One of its countries is Jordan. If you are a Christian, you're probably very familiar with the name because of the Jordan river. It is also known to be the most peaceful among the other countries found in Middle East. It actually has good government relations with the United States as well as Palestine, Israel, and Lebanon--three of the oldest disputes existing in the said region. What's also good about the country is that it's pretty much open to all kinds of tourists. Whether you are a Muslim or a Christian, or belonging to any other religion, you would find Jordan a safe and beautiful place to visit. Jordan is known for its higly urbanized society and is actually considered to be an emerging market. It also hosts the most number of Free Trade Agreements, even extending close relations with United Kingdom, than other Arab countries.
Another Middle East country worth knowing is Lebanon. The great thing about this country is that it shares a lot of Mediterranean qualities than Arabic culture. Lebanese food is one thing that's worth trying such as sharwarma, hommous, and other lamb meals. Lebanon is a country overflowing with rich Mediterranean culture evidently seen in the dancing and the beauty of the people in the country. This is also a country where Christians and Muslims live freely together. However, the recent wars have brought some devastation to the country although initiatives to rebuild buildings are in process. The climate is generally tropical with that Mediterranean touch.
Speaking of living freely as either Christian or Muslim, Oman is another great country to discover within the Middle East. Compared to other business districts in the said region, Oman is known to be the most laid back. It also tend to have a very hot climate because of its proximity to the desert regions. This is why most businesses tend to close or slow down during noon time until three in the afternoon. They will then open again in the evening when the temperature is more comfortable and cooler. Calls for prayers in the Muslim faith is heard all over Oman from Minarets.
Then of course, there's the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which is known to be the largest country found in Middle East. However, the regulations for accepting tourists here is stricter, which is why you would need a Visa prior to entry. This is also where the two most important icons of Muslim faith can be found: the Medina and the Mecca.
