Mike Huckabee--My Favorite Candidate for President
This lens is dedicated to Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, a former Republican candidate for President before he lost out to John McCain.
Still, I don't think the case for Mike Huckabee is dead at all, and he will reamin a viable candidate in the future. Governor Huckabee seemed to come from nowhere to gain a lot of momentum because of his likability, wide appeal, and common sense. This page has Mike Huckabee quotes, Mike Huckabee videos, lists of Mike Huckabee positions, and other links to great Huckabee resources.
I hope you enjoy this Mike Huckabee website, and thanks for stopping by!
Mike Huckabee Vice President - What Are His Chances?
Would McCain do well to pick Mike Huckabee, conservative republican?
John McCain is searching in earnest for the best vice presidential candidate, and the obvious name that keeps coming back up is Mike Huckabee for Vice President.Huckabee has plenty of credentials that should make John McCain think. Huckabee was McCain's biggest challenger, and he won the states of Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, West Virginia, Kansas, and Louisiana, and just missed out on South Carolina, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Also to consider are several states that Huckabee would have done well in had the nomination not already been decided, such as Indiana, Kentucky, South Dakota, Montana, and Missouri.
Political candidate Mike Huckabee may not be a favorite among the hard core neo-cons, but he plays well with the evangelical crowd, especially young evengelicals who tend to be a little bit more mainstream or independent socially than older evangelical voters. He also plays far better with the evangelical crowd than McCain does.
As vice president, Mike Huckabee could help to rally the base of the party, and he plays well in the South, which could make it harder for Barack Obama to make a serious play for Virginia and North Carolina, two states that currently it looks like Dems might actually have a strong shot at.
In addition, Huckabee is very likable, very socialable, and plays well with younger voters. Even independent voters who didn't vote for him in the primaries all commented on liking him, plus it's unlikely that Obama could find a VP candidate who could debate as well as Huckabee could.
Mike Huckabee is also very quotable from the famous Mike Huckabee: "Jesus was too smart to run for public office," to his classic story telling, listening to Mike Huckabee speeches often reminds you of the same charisma that former President Bill Clinton used to get elected.
In addition to this, former governor Mike Huckabee shows a common sense and political savvy that many in the GOP would be wise to follow. Like Mike Huckabee's quotes about Barack Obama, which gives the classy attitude they will need to have a chance to win in November.
Huckabee would be a fantastic choice, but one wonders if bad feelings from McCain could prevent that, or if Huckabee would want to be VP when his political future could be so bright (looking at what happened to John Edwards could give him pause).
Only time will tell if Mike Huckaee will be VP.
Where Is Mike Huckabee Now? | Mike Huckabee VP? | Mike Huckabee Home Town
Where is Mike Huckabee now? What are Mike Huckabee's future plans?
Where is Mike Huckabee now? This is a question that has been a lot recently by political followers who enjoyed the unexpected emergence of this former governor onto the political scene, and the amazing way the Mike Huckabee for President campaign seemed to come from nowhere and on an absolute shoe string budget, no original name recognition, and minimal staff, became a legitimate contender for the Republican nomination.
In fact, I wrote months ago that the deciding factor in this election could be Fred Thompson, since he could siphon enough votes from Huckabee to allow McCain to win South Carolina and build momentum, which is exactly what happened since McCain won by about .5% while Thompson took 18%.
So as Mike Huckabee gained a lot of media attention with his views on evolution, health care, taxes, energy independence, and many other issues, he failed to win the nomination, but Mike Huckabee as Vice President still isn't out of the question.
Mike Huckabee has been campaigning for the Republicans, and is especially popular with young conservatives. Mike Huckabee has also saved a life using the Hemlich manuever, gained more national exposure as a speaker, and continues to travel around, not finding much time to make it back to Mike Huckabee's hometown of Hope, Arkansas.
Huckabee remains active, and even as he doesn't get the VP nod from McCain, he's not likely to disappear anytime soon.

Mike Huckabee Leading VP Candidate?
Huckabee would be a great addition to the John McCain ticket
There were several news stories breaking that former governor Mike Huckabee might be the leading candidate to be Vice President on John McCain's ticket. This could be a very smart move as Huckabee is a very intelligent, charismatic, and likeable political figure who can give a lot of specific policy information on subjects that McCain can not.Huckabee is very likeable, does well with conservatives and young voters alike, and tends to be very well respected by independents, whom McCain is desperate to strongly pull away from the charismatic Barack Obama.
Will Mike Huckabee be Vice President? Only time will tell.

Mike Huckabee Does What No Republican Ever Has Before...
New Hampshire's National Education Association Endorses Huckabee for President
Republican Mike Huckabee was the only Republican who found the National Education Association (the nation's largest teachers union) important enough to visit. While others talk about education, Huckabee actually met with teachers and the NEA in New Hampshire to discuss the issues with people who have first hand experience. As a result, the NEA of New Hampshire, which boasts 16,000 members, endorsed Mike Huckabee as a Republican candidate for President, as well as Democrat Hillary Clinton. The democratic nomination was not surprising, but this is the first time the New Hampshire branch of the NEA has EVER endorsed before.
Nearly 4,000 of the union members are Republicans, making this a great coup for the Huckabee campaign, which also saw a bump in polls in New Hampshire from both the YouTube/CNN national debates, and from taking first in Iowa.
Recent polls in New Hampshire shows Huckabee moving towards 3rd place, which would be considered a solid victory since he was originally tied for 5th--and since Romney is from neighboring Massachusetts, and Guliani is from New England, as well. A solid 3rd there on top of an Iowa win would be huge for the Huckabee campaign before hitting the Southern states where he should do well.
This endorsement could be huge.

Republican YouTube Live Debate Tonight!
Weds, November 28, they have to answer the questions live!
For all those following the political race, YouTube is holding a live debate with all the Republican candidates tonight. This is a great chance for Mike Huckabee to show his strong speaking skills and genuine personality to a large audience that may not have much experience with him.Right now he's tied with Romney for the lead in Iowa, which would be a huge coup. He needs to pick it up in New Hampshire, but an Iowa win might be able to boost him 5-6 points right off the bat, as it has done for other candidates in the past, and then the Southern states come in rapid succession, which should play well for Huckabee, especially if he can win Iowa and just get a respectable top 3 in New Hampshire.
The debate tonight is HERE. Give it a watch, and let's see if Mike Huckabee's natural speaking skills and relatability give him a boost, now that the other candidates have gone to mud slinging since they see him as a threat to the status quo.
Immediate First Thoughts/Impressions:
Post debate, which I watched on CNN, my first impressons are this:
Mitt Romney did not look good at all. He looked stressed, like a man who was on a script and couldn't talk off of it, and his answers at times were really wishy-washy and weak. I think he probably lost the most out of all the candidates in this one.
Fred Thompson didn't look much better. There weren't any major flubs, but he is not a very charismatic figure, he seemed a little shaky, and that attack ad (although his answer to "what's up with that?" was pretty good, I'll give him that) just did not play well.
The winners to me appeared to be Mike Hucakbee and Ron Paul. Ron Paul still hits me as out there, but watching him, he is extremely charismatic, has good answers to questions, and he is right in this: people hate big government, and he's the most obvious anti-big government candidate out there.
Huckabee looked great. He deflected multiple attacks well, always looking genuine. His direct answers to hard questions were appreciated, and he had two really good quips that are going to be added to the quotable list. He is also a very charismatic figure, in the laid back, genuine way that helped Bill Clinton come out of nowhere to snatch the Democratic nomination and two terms as President.
Guliani I felt wasn't helped by the debates, but he wasn't hurt, either. Some of the issues that would seperate him from the traditional conservative base came out, but all in all I felt he held his own against a tough field.
The biggest winners out of this will be Ron Paul and Mike Huckabee, and since Romney and Thompson struggled, this bears the best for Huckabee, who is the most likely to gain more votes from their defections than the other candidates. The fact that, fair or not, he's considered a "major" candidate while Ron Paul is not, also plays to Huckabee. If he can open up a lead in Iowa, he'll start climbing in the other states, as well.

Mike Huckabee--Also from Hope, Arkansas
What is Mike Huckabee's hometown? Same as Bill Clinton - Hope, Arkansas
I really like Mike Huckabee as a candidate. He hits me as having the middle class roots that made former President Bill Clinton popular, while having a moral authority that obviously Clinton does not.Huckabee is articulate, funny, and comes across as very genuine. He has a strong faith, which I like because it's not the fake faith that far too many Republicans claim to have (you know, the dozen or so who said "I love Jesus" before getting arrested for a variety of felonies), while making sense. He will call out Creationists and Pro-Lifers, even as he has some of the same views. He knows what is important and what is not.
Get rid of the IRS, get rid of the bull crap tax shelters our biggest corporations use, get energy independent using environmentally friendly sources that will create new jobs for Americans, and get the special interests out of Washington. I think he's one of only two politicians running who actually believe this (the other being Barak Obama), and I think he may be the only one who could.
He is a candidate who actually has the strong character and healthy faith I like to see, while having his head on straight. Despite the "Baptist Minister" label, he relates well to moderate middle of the road America, and has recently shown some promsiing gains in Iowa. He may be the most reasonable and well articulated candidate of either party!
And I'm not some neo-con or fanatic just sposing off.
Politically I'm an independent voter. I'm about 1/3 Republican, 1/3 Democrat, and 1/3 Independent. Based on how congress and the "President" have done, I'm also 98% pissed off.
I worked for Lamar Alexander's campaign in 2000, and when he dropped out, I went to work for Al Gore. Last election was depressing for me, as I couldn't find any candidates in any race I liked. I voted mostly independent, then voted Democrat in protest, thinking the day of me voting straight ticket would never come, and I hope it never does again.
This year I've got to say it: I like Mike!
Here's to hoping. All I know is "I Like Mike!"

More Great News for Mike Huckabee!
New Polls Give Mike Huckabee a Boost!
The more that these campaigns play out, the more it actually looks like Mike Huckabee could be in a position to actually win the nomination. He is 2nd in national polls, behind only Rudy Guliani by an average of 3-6%. This is amazing considering Huckabee has less name recognition and far less money. One thing past elections have shown is that early wins and momentum are huge factors. A win in Iowa often bounces a candidate extra points in all the following states, and if a front runner struggles early, he may rapidly lose support in states he previously had a strong margin in.
Recent polls show Huckabee is beginning to catch up in states, as well, even with only a couple national debate showings at this point. Polls show that not only has Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee opened up a considerable lead in Iowa (which is utterly devastating to Mitt Romney's campaign), but he also leads all Republican candidates in South Carolina and Georgia, as well.
He is also gaining heavy ground in Wisconsin and Florida. In a short time, Huckabee has gone from unknown in both states in low single digits to 3rd in Florida at 13%, and to 2nd in Wisconsin at 20%, only about 3% behind the front runner Guliani.
With the recent series of scandals around Guliani, Huckabee has a chance to really make a move. He needs more national exposure, needs someone to come in with some major funding, and if he can hold the leads he has, the bounce could be enough to really push him up there--especially if he crushes Iowa.
Another factor in this is Senator Fred Thompson. Most of the votes going to the senator, who has failed to be the "next Ronald Reagan," are votes that either won't go to another candidate, or will go mostly to Huckabee. If Thompson drops out early, that would give Huckabee an additional boost that could help push him over the top.
Governor Huckabee's campaign is amazing, and gives the blue print for what future candidates can do to get involved, assuming they are both charismatic and likable. Right now New Hampshire is strongly enamored with Romney, Guliani, and McCain. Huckabee doesn't have to win this state, but if he could crush Iowa and then move into the top 3, that would be huge--especially with South Carolina following.
That, along with a Thompson drop out and some more national exposure, could be enough for Huckabee to take Wisconsin and make a serious run at Florida. Winning Florida would be such a coup that he could probably ride that to the nomination.
The good news keeps coming in...so here's to hoping for Mike Huckabee!

Mike Huckabee Moves to Second in National Polls!
Iowa isn't the only place where Mike Huckabee is gaining a lot of attention. Less than a week after polls showed Mike Huckabee passing Mitt Romney for the lead in Iowa (astounding considering the sheer amount of money Romney has spent vs. Huckabee, who has raised less than $4 million total) national polls show that Huckabee has passed Romney nationally, as well, at 17%.A month ago Governor Mike Huckabee was making some news as he barely snuck into third place in Iowa, but remained stuck at around 7% nationally. Since then a huge surge in Iowa, coupled with incredible showings in national debates, has resulted in an underdog makes good story that has propelled Huckabee to a serious contender.
The 12% boost comes mostly at the expense of Senator Fred Thompson, and with some coming off Mitt Romney. In addition, Huckabee is winning evangelical votes at a 3 to 1 rate among those who plan to vote. Huckabee is second, trailing only Giuliani, who slips all the way down to 23% this month, putting him only 6 points ahead of Mike Huckabee.
After making this incredible a run, and now that he is considered a legitimate candidate, he's seeing a bounce in the polls in early primary states from New Hampshire to Michigan to South Carolina. If he wins Iowa, and can even build a lead there, with how fractured the Republican party is, with a legitimate chance of the first three states going to three different candidates, the nomination could be anyone's game.
