Miniature Pinscher - "The King Of The Toys"
Who would have thought I would ever be a Miniature Pinscher lover. After all, I'm a pretty big guy. And all my life I've owned big dogs. Man's dogs I called them. Then one day my wife brought home of these things. My first reaction was to laugh. I said something like "You call that a dog?", or some other smart comment that would show my sensitive, caring side.
My next thought was how are we going to keep our big Australian Shepherd from eating her for lunch. It turns out that was backwards thinking. If you've ever owned a Miniature Pinscher you realize how quickly they take control of any situation. This little dog sure has courage. I quickly learned why the Min Pin is nicknamed "The King of the Toys".
Making a very long story short, I'll tell you that if I could only own one breed of dog, this would be the breed. I have never known another breed more loyal, smarter, more excitable, more entertaining and with more personality than this dog breed. If ever a dog was born to be a stand-up comic, it is the Min Pin.
But this breed also brings along a set of challenges not experienced by other breed owners. You'll have to be active to keep up with them. They are escape artists and naturally curious so you'll need to be careful to keep them contained. They will also dominate the household if you let them. They will need to be well trained or they will train you. Fortunately they are very smart and easy to train. They truely are a big dog in a little dog's body. They are fearless. All these things make this a great dog breed, but they also make this a challenging dog to own. Miniature Pinscher lovers/owners wouldn't have it any other way.

OK. So we've told you about how wonderful the Miniature Pinscher is. In all fairness, we need to tell you that this dog breed comes with a unique set of challenges as well. That's why it's so important that the Min Pin be well trained.
For starters, the Min Pin can and will be a tyrant if you let him. This breed will literally run your home. He must be taught that you are the Alpha person in his pack.
The Miniature Pinscher is headstrong and stubborn. He can also be an unending barker if you don't train him well. Fortunately he is very smart and easy to train.
Also fortunately for us as dog lovers, it's easy to learn the right way to train your pet. There are a number of different dog training guides on the market, but we believe there are two that are truly outstanding. The one you pick should depend strictly on how you like to learn.
Our favorite and the most comprehensive is called SitStayFetch. Simply put, you will not find a more complete guide anywhere.
However we realize some people prefer to learn by watching videos. If this is you be sure to check out Dove Cresswell's Dog Training Online. This is another great dog training tool and you can even watch a free sample video to see if this is really the right method for you.

- My mini pin has been digging holes and eating dirt all the time.. I looked it up and it said it meant she wasn't getting something she needed. What should I do? does anyone know?

- I just got a mini pincher yesterday so far its all good.He is 3weeks old and very playful and my kids love him.I'm glad that i bought him because i hear nothing but good things about mini pincher .

- (To ALL) I noticed lots of people complaining about their dog having a biting problem, maybe he/she isn't diceplined, I have a mini pin girl, she's 5 months old, I never experienced the biting problem unless she was playing, it wasn't too searious because puppies at their age are teething so it's recommended that they bite, not you of course, just ask your regular vet about any treats for teething, I'll try to figure out what it was that my dog loves so much, it looks like a bamboo stick or pretzel stick and in a clear wrapper at walgreens. Also, since they're so curious and love to chew keep them away from clothing items because mini pins seem to love chewing clothes, scweeky toys/Lots! of toys are recommended because if you leave it locked in a room it will explore everything it finds. Good luck with these small tips.

- I don't know how to stop the biting but I do know that buying him/her a long lasting dog treat can put the biting to a minimum. Their was a tortilla chip-looking type thing my vet recommended and also my dog enjoys these long lating pretzel sticks made for dogs. Sorry I can't remember exactly what they were.

What Is A Miniature Pinscher?
It occured to me after looking at this lens that if you don't already know what a Miniature Pinscher is, I had written nothing that would help you find out. Unless of course you decided to check out our website at Miniature Pinscher World.
First we'll tell you what it is not. The Miniature Pinscher is NOT a Miniature Doberman Pinscher. In fact the Min Pin is actually an older breed than the Doberman. It's been around since the early 19th century and was bred as a ratter. The Miniature Pinscher has terrier beginnings and although it's make-up is not fully known, some believe the Dachshund and Italian Greyhound were involved in creating this breed. And even though this breed was originally used to catch rats, it is now an absolutely marvelous companion pet.
It's size (10-12 inches tall) and weight (8-12 pounds) make this a perfect apartment dog. Yes he needs a lot of exercise but because of his small size, he can get plenty running around inside or in a decent sized fenced yard. He'll be more than happy to exercise himself but loves a daily walk with his owner.
Min Pins can be noisy, which also makes them excellent watch dogs. They are fearless, alert and easy to look after, but very high strung and curious. They have a tendency to be dominant inspite of their size and they can be very tempermental. Min Pins are extremely loyal to their owner, and although they can get along with anyone in your family, they generally become very attached to just one. And they are very wary of strangers.
This breed has a very compact and muscular body, and almost always has a docked tail. Show dogs typically have their ears cropped, but many family pet owners choose not to do this. Our Miniature Pinschers do not have cropped ears. Their coat is short and glossy and requires very little maintenance outside of the occasional brushing.
Watching them at dog shows is a real treat. They have a hackney high-stepping gait (walk) and move along a bit like a graceful horse.
