A Hospital's Mistake!

What Went Wrong?
In January 2002, my son was born at Christ Hospital which was one of the most reputable hospital in Jersey City, NJ. I had even bypassed Jersey City Medical Center to have my son born at this hospital. In January 2009, this widely circulated news story of someone negligently tossing a stillborn into the trash at this seemingly reputable hospital, has me wondering, how could this happened? What went wrong? What happened to the high quality in maternity care that Christ Hospital was known for? Then, I'm wondering what if this had been your newborn son or your newborn daughter who's stillborn body was negligently thrown away in the trash? How would you feel? What would you have done? And what hospital staff is responsible for allowing this negligence to go unnoticed?

Again I asked, went wrong?

And yes, this incident really upsets me! It's almost seven years ago, January 14, 2002 at 2 a.m. that my son was born at this very hospital. For years Christ Hospital was one of the best hospitals to go to for maternity care. In fact, as stated in Christ Hospital, NJ--Quality Care this hospital achieved a five-star rating for clinical excellence in maternity care from Healthgrades the nation's leading independent healthcare rating company.

Read their mission statement Christ Hospital, NJ--Our Mission/Values,do you see what tops the list? "We put our patients first." Well, isn't that a cold slap in the face! How do you explain "putting our patients first" to Kalynn Moore when you lost the remains of her stillborn son or even worse threw out the remains of her stillborn son.

Next, read about the hospital's history Christ Hospital, NJ--Our History. Did you see what the first paragraph states? "Christ Hospital was founded in 1872 with a radical mission: to provide the Hudson county residents and the surrounding areas with the finest healthcare available, regardless of race, creed or national origin." It goes on to state that Christ Hospital mission is clear today as it was in 1872. What happened between December 21, 2008-January 2, 2009 clearly negates their mission statement.

Don't get me wrong, the hospital did provide excellent maternity care while I was in their care. This was, until recently, a very reputable hospital. I had bypassed Jersey City Medical Center (which was closer to my home) to have my son born in this hospital. So this recent incident really upsets me. Not only did they violate Kalynn's trust of excellence maternity service but I'm sure countless number of other who had faith in the hospital's reputation to provide excellent service. It makes me wonder, if you can't trust the quality of service of a reputable hospital, than who can you trust?

Recent news updates states that the baby boy's corpse may have been incinerated. This is really a bizzare story!

Should the NJ Law regarding stillborns be changed?

Conflicting stories concerning Bashere!

Kalynn holding her son, Bashere

I'm getting two conflicting stories here, 1) the baby boy, Bashere was stillborn and 2) Bashere's heartbeat was weak and the hospital try to stabilize it but he died twenty minutes later.

Now, supposedly New Jersey Law doesn't consider a stillborn a person therefore; no birth certificate or death certificate was made. Even so, that doesn't give the hospital the right to throw out anyone's baby. If the baby was born stillborn, why isn't the baby's body available to perform an autopsy?

Today is my son's birthday! He was born seven years before this incident occurred. Has the medical community become so careless that they negligently throw a mother's stillborn son in the garbage like it meant nothing to her or her family. Would I have experienced the same fate, if I had a cesarean and my son wasn't born healthy. I will never know!
