So what is modular origami then?
Well, let's start with the basics first :
Origami
Origami is the japanese art form where you take a sheet of paper and fold/crease it to produce amazing models and shapes. The 'purist' version of origami uses only a single sheet, with no cutting and no glue allowed!
Modular Origami
Modular origami takes that idea in a different direction - you fold several different pieces and fit them together to create a more complex model - a basic example is a box with lid.
Geometric Models
Where it gets really interesting is with geometric models - these are often quite simple, but when combined in large numbers, it's possible to produce amazingly detailed models - one of my favourites is the 30-model dodecahedron (10 faces, each with 5 sides).
This lens is a brief introduction to some great ideas for getting started with modular origami, or for improving your existing origami skills.
