The Truth About Sanford A Moeller (the Moeller Method or Moeller Technique)

Few drummers and percussion specialists are aware that the information found in the 'Moeller book' is not Sanford A Moeller's method, but rather the standard and traditional method that has been passed down through the ages.  Moeller is only the messenger!

One can recognize the school of drumming, described in Moeller's book, in this way: The drummer uses a traditional left hand grip (loose and relaxed) and a right hand grip that few players are familiar with...(see photo)

The right hand holds the stick almost entirely with the little finger. This powerful right hand grip (rudimental grip) has been used by vintage fife and drum drummers, throughout the ages. More recently, 'rock drummers' who play hard. have found use for this very strong grip.

The 'other grip' that Moeller describes in his book is the more-refined 'closed grip' using the thumb fulcrum. Most use this approach ... but developing the rudimental or little finger grip expands one's horizons. Further information may be found at:
