What is a Moonstone?
Moonstone is a truly ancient gem that goes back all the way to the dawn of man.These gems have been used for centuries by mystical healers for there metaphysical properties.
Moonstone is used to balancing one's emotions and healing reproductive disorders and infertility.
It is also said to help during childbirth
Even today many cultures and counties revere the stone as sacred. In India it is regarded as holy.
It is also called the Dreamstone. If you wear it to bed it is said to give you beautiful visions and dreams.
Middle eastern women sew moonstones in hem of their clothing. Moonstones are a symbol of fertility for them.
Traditional Moonstones
Moonstones are found all over the world.Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Myanmar (Burma), Madagascar, Germany, India, Tanzania, Brazil, United States,and Mexico.
Most people in the United States are familiar with the traditional translucent Moonstone buffed into a cabochon. Like the ones pictured.
This style of Moonstone while common was not wildly popular.

Cat's Eye Moonstones
This is know as a "PHENOMENAL GEMSTONE"Cat's eyes are produced when a strong source of light (like the Sun) reflects off of the multitude of geometrically arranged layers of threadlike inclusions. If the threads in the gem all align themselves in a single direction, much like the strands in a spool of thread, the reflection will appear as a single ray of light called Chatoyancy, or Cat's-eye. The Cat's-eyes can occur in Feldspar, Chrysoberyl, Tourmaline and Quartz gems.

Care of Moonstones
Moonstone must be handled with care. This because moonstones are soft and brittle. Only a 6 on the Mohs Scale. If misteated, they can scratch or break easily, although some small scratches can be repaired buffed out.Moonstone can be gently wiped clean with a soft lint free cloth. You may oiled them if they loses their luster. Avoid exposing them to excessive light and harsh chemicals. You should remove moonstone jewelry to prevent it from being submerged with you bathe or clean.
Moonstones can be steam cleaned but Ultra Sonic cleaning should be avoided.

- I don't think I've ever seen a moonstone, but these prices are incredible. I agree with you about prices going up soon, especially the faceted stones. They're gorgeous.
