International Networking

An International African Approach

With More Black Success, our emphasis is on international networking. We profile successful Black people all over the world. It doesn't matter if you are from the African continent or the Diaspora, from the United States, the Caribbean, the UK, Europe or anywhere else in the world.

So what better way to grow your business internationaly than to advertise in MBS? See our website for details - check the More Black Success section below,

We are much stronger and more effective when we work together, for our common interests as African people, and for the benefit of everyone.

It is important that people of African heritage link together and share our knowledge and information with each other. This could be called an Afrocentric approach. What we have in common is that our ancestors originated from Africa. And we have so much more in common as well. when we share information and knowledge, we can come up with a solution which will benefit all African people.

Many of us are facing similar difficulties and challenges. We have a shared history as African people and we have a great deal we can learn from each other.

Many of us have misconceptions about people from different countries. We think that people in Africa or in the Caribbean have a better life than us. We are often shocked to find out that we have a lot of the same difficulties.

We have also been taught to look down from each other. We may look down on people from the Caribbean, but we find that they look down on us. They were taught to look down on people from Africa, who look down on them. It's a form of self-hatred.

Historically, Black people have been taught to hate and mistrust each other as a way of controlling us. We need to overcome these barriers. We are all African people.

In MBS2, I interviewed Tim Campbell, the first winner of The Apprentice with Alan Sugar. He told me:

"In our community, in my parents' generation, people were very aware that they had to work together. Because they didn't have the same access to finance or whatever it may be. We have kind of lost that to a degree, because we have become very individual. Now it's important that we actually get back to the stage where we join together and are united by that fact."

Black Author Interviews

The Truth about Black Writers

MBS9More Black Success Volume 9 is the second issue dedicated solely to Black authors. MBS7 was the first.

I have interviewed Bobby Richardson, H. V. Lyons and Nedyne Shorts-Nettles about their writing process.

They share their secrets about how they got started, where they get inspiration and much more.

Plus you can read an article by Renee Wiggins: What is keeping you from fulfilling your potential?

If you would like to be interviewed, please contact us - see
More Black Success: Would You Like to Be Featured?

Previous issues have also contained interviews with, and articles by, Black authors.

In MBS2, Michael Taylor, author of Brothers Are You Listening?, says : Time and time again I would hear comments [from other Black people] like, "Black people don't read" or "Black people don't spend money on personal development programs. How many people are going to purchase a book titled Brothers Are You Listening? Don't you know that Black men are the last people to purchase these types of books?

"Although I must admit that I was a little surprised by their reactions, I completely disagreed with their conclusions. I knew there was a need for personal development books written by and for African Americans and although most people disagreed with me I decided to pursue my dream any way. As a matter of fact, their rejection inspired me even more. "

Bobby Richardson

Author of The Neighbourhood

Bobby Richardson's self-published book The Neighbourhood is an urban tale of transition that pays tribute to wisdom, ambition and determination. It takes into account various personal challenges one tends to find in a sometimes uncertain urban culture.

As an insatiable reader by nature, Bobby says, "Creating mental images with words is just as rewarding to me as painting and drawing. To me, blending words to tell a story is similar to blending colors to make a painting". The author is hopeful that his readers will be inspired to accomplish their own personal goals and aspirations in life.

Bobby's working on the sequel to The Neighborhood. He says, "This book is only the tip of a very large iceberg. There is so much more to come."

Coach Kevin

Author of From Ghetto to Greatness

Coach Kevin was interviewed in MBS8. He communicates a constant message of hope and inspiration, and talks about his book From Ghetto to Greatness.

He says, "People often ask me why I decided to become an author or what inspired me to write this book. My answer is always the same, "I had a story that HAD TO BE TOLD!". A story that is a demonstration of overcoming extreme circumstances to find a human path towards greatness".

Antwan McClean

Author of Your Greater Self: An A-Z Guide to Becoming the Person You Most Admire

Antwan McLean was interviewed in MBS7. He talked about his book Your Greater Self: An A-Z Guide to Becoming the Person You Most Admire, which encourages people to fulfil their highest potential.

Across the Vast Desert

Do You Have a Story to Tell?

The truth-seekers of old would undertake perilous journeys, travelling across vast expanses of desert in search of knowledge.

They sat around the fires at night with other travellers and caravan traders, sharing their stories and singing songs of home. And risked becoming lost and disoriented, wandering amongst the dunes, waiting for the vultures to devour their flesh and leave their bones to bleach in the unyielding sun.

Climbing the Highest Peaks

Can You Inspire Others?

Others climbed the highest mountain peaks to consult sages who could offer them the keys to knowledge and wisdom. Some lost their lives, and either succumbed to frostbite, altitude sickness or hypothermia, or plunged thousands of kilometres to their deaths.

But those who returned home brought with them the wisdom of the ages.

Science and Mystery

Will Others Learn from Your Experience?

Still others sought the truth at the end of a telescope or a microscope or in a laboratory, in the sciences, the arts and mystery. They tried to unravel the secrets of the universe.

Are You One of the Truth-Seekers?

So often we seek the truth outside of ourselves, when really we have it within us. We have it within the depths of our minds, in our hearts, in the cells of our bodies.

Maybe you are one of the truth-seekers. You can gain entry to the secret, hidden vaults of knowledge. Or perhaps you are a sage, waiting to share your gifts with the world, and those seeking the truth will come in search of you.

There are many who are happy to share their stories. By doing so, they enrich us all.

We all gain inspiration from reading stories of courageous individuals, who battle against the odds or win out against their personal demons.

For example, Leslie A. Morris, author of entitled How Ya Like Me Now! Brought up in poverty, living in public housing and enduring the humiliation of being labelled a "bad seed", she grew up to have a successful and fulfilling life, and now mentors other youngsters. To read her story, see More Black Success Volume 5.

There are many more stories here for you to enjoy. Stories of successful, courageous and heroic people of African heritage.

Men's Health on Oprah

On Oprah recently, the topic was men's health. And everyone in the studio was male.

Oprah didn't even host the show herself. It was hosted by Dr. Oz.

Are Black men too embarrassed to talk about their health? Do they avoid talking about it with their wives, the women in their lives, their families?

Do they avoid going to the doctor because they don't want to get bad news?

How can we as healthcare and health promotion workers reach African American and African Caribbean men? How can we support them to get the health checks they need?

If Black men won't go to the doctor, we need to bring the doctors to them. In More Black Success Volume 4, Dr. Bill Releford writes about the Black Barbershop Project.

Some of the questions raised in these ebooks include the following:
