Happy Birthday Jesus
I love Christmas! The lights, the trees, the presents, all great stuff. But the most important part of Christmas is the reminder of how precious you and I are to God. He loved us so much, and wanted to be with us so much, that he invaded our space. He came into this world, in the flesh, born as a little baby. Christmas is Jesus' birthday! It's the day he came into this world with a mission -to restore our relationship with him and bring us close to him.
It only seems fitting to me that we should throw him a birthday party, or four! This Christmas we'll be throwing four parties to celebrate Jesus; 3 Christmas Eve services and one Birthday Party for Jesus, specially made for the kids.
Christmas Eve at Good News Church's campus:
5:00 pm -Christmas Eve Gathering
6:30 pm -Christmas Eve Gathering
Christmas Eve at Front Range Mobile Home Park:
5:30 pm -Birthday Party for Jesus
7:00 pm -Christmas Eve Gathering
At all three Christmas Eve Gatherings we'll be singing Christmas songs, I'll be sharing the same message, and we'll be presenting everyone the opportunity to give Jesus the one gift he wants for his birthday -our hearts. Start making plans to be at one of the Christmas Eve Gatherings, but don't come alone; be sure to invite your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. It'll be a party that could change their lives.
Rather than asking our new friends at Front Range Mobile Home Park to come across town to the church campus, we are taking the parties to them. Here's the plan: We will be giving a Bible (some in English, some in Spanish) to every household in Front Range. Each Bible will be delivered along with an invitation for the kids to the Birthday Party for Jesus and an invitation for the everyone to the Christmas Eve Gathering -both events will be held at Front Range Mobile Home Park's Club House. The Birthday Party for Jesus will have balloons, party games, birthday cake, and a special opportunity for kids to give their hearts to Jesus. And it's at the Front Range Christmas Eve Gathering that we will be handing out stockings filled with goodies to the kids, given in Jesus' name.
It will cost $1,600 to purchase the Bibles, make invitations, and throw the two parties. Let me challenge you to give a special year end gift, above and beyond your normal tithes, to help cover the cost of these parties. You can instantly make an electronic deposit or put your special gift in the offering on Sunday -be sure to write the words "Happy Birthday" in the notes. In advance, let me tell you thank you for your generous gifts that will make these special parties at Front Range a reality.

Maybe I'm Hyper Sensitive

People run off singing to themselves, "Going to the chapel and we're gonna' get married… going to the chapel of love," and dreaming of living happily ever after. The bride wears a beautiful white gown -the most expensive dress she will ever own. The groom brings a tiny set of handcuffs, called wedding rings. The two love birds make vows to each other, "for better or for worse… to have and to hold, from this day forward." It all sounds so beautiful; it brings a tear to my eye.
Unfortunately, too many of those beautiful starts come to an ugly end. No one gets married with plans of divorce, but the reality is that 50% percent of first marriages, 67% of second and 74% of third marriages end in divorce (according the Forest Institute of Professional Psychology). Ouch!
Maybe I'm hyper sensitive because in the past couple of years I've had too many friends untie the knot. And as a pastor I've helped countless numbers of people wrestle through the ramifications of divorce. And according to the statistics, there's a 50-50 chance that you yourself have been divorced.
Let's see if we can change the statistics. Starting November 15th we'll be launching a series called The Vow. Wedding vows are so much more than a declaration of love -they hold the keys for a strong lasting marriage. Whether you hope to get married someday, or you've already tied the knot, we'll dive into a series of messages to discover what these words can mean for the future of your relationship.
Know someone whose marriage isn't going so well? -invite them to come with you to this series so that they can get the tools they need to make things right.
Know someone who has the perfect marriage? -Invite them to come with you to this series and get some "scheduled maintenance" to keep everything running smoothly.
Know someone who isn't married yet? -invite them to come with you to this series so that they can be better prepared for a possible future relationship.
Know someone who's divorced? -invite them to come with you because it'll be a safe place for them to do a little healing.

Blast Off
The Collision has launched -yes! Wahoo! Can you hear the sigh of relief? It wasn't sabotaged by defective parts or bad engineering. It wasn't delayed by bad weather. It didn't explode during ignition. It didn't collide with something in mid air (bad pun intended). No crucial parts came off during flight. Things are looking good and the Collision is gaining altitude! At the launch event there were 79 people! WOW! To put it into perspective, that's slightly larger than the average church here in the States. People have been coming from the Block Parties, from Caffeinated, from the Bar Hopping, and from personal invites that we all have made to our friends, family, and neighbors. People are making commitments to follow Jesus at the Collision. And people are consistently saying that the Collision is a place where they encounter God. Things are looking good and the Collision is gaining altitude!
The Collision has launched, but it has yet to reach orbit. The Collision still needs to gain altitude to get to the point where it's cruising along. The space shuttle uses immense amounts of fuel to get into orbit, but once it's there, it uses only a minute amount of fuel for on-going course corrections. For us, reaching orbit means the band keeps on practicing and is getting better each week. Pastor Chad continues to lead, train, and grow the team that serves at the Collision. And we continue to provide Caffeinated, go Bar Hopping, and are making plans to deepen our relationship with everyone at the Front Range Mobile Home Park (more info on this project next month).
"What about me?" you ask, "What can I do? How can I be a part of what God is doing here? How can I help the Collision reach orbiting altitude?" Glad you asked; here's a couple of ideas. First off, if you haven't done so, come check it out. Once you experience it, you'll be prepared to invite someone to the Collision. If you haven't yet invited anyone to the Collision, it's not too late. Second, Chad is looking to build a group of 50 people who will be the catalyst for a crowd; a group of people who will commit to attending the Collision worship gathering through the end of the year in order to provide stability and strength. You were going to go to church this Sunday anyways, why not just go in the evening instead of the morning? And lastly, even if you're not going to be a part of the Collision crowd, be a part of the bridge events, such as Bar Hopping and Caffeinated. These are events where people are introduced to and invited to the Collision. Just send me an email saying you're willing and available. We can't reach orbiting altitude without you!

Three Requests
September 20th is almost here! The Grand Opening for the Collision! I'm so excited and so afraid. I think that people will come; people have been coming to the sneak previews, but what if no one comes to the Grand Opening? And if people come, will they feel loved and accepted? Will people make new friends? Will the new band be able to connect with people and then connect them to Jesus? Will we have all our bases covered in the kid's classes? What if there are too many kids? Will God be honored and worshiped? Will lives be changed? What if all the Block Parties, Bar outreaches, and effort all come to nothing? What ifCan I make three requests of you? Three requests that will erase my fears and replace them with unadulterated excitement:
1) Pray. Would you pray daily for the Collision? Here are some specific ways you can pray:
2) Invite. Would you make it your personal goal to invite 3 people to the Collision? We all have friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers who are ready to try out the Collision, but they need a personal invitation from you. I'm not asking you to invite the world -just pick out 3 people to invite. I'm inviting 3 people too.
3) Be there. Would you commit to coming to the Collision's Grand Opening on September 20th? We all need to be there to celebrate this momentous occasion. We all need to show our support for Pastor Chad and the team of folks who are leading and serving at the collision. And we all need to sit in the service with the people we invited.
In advance, let me say "Thank you" for responding to my 3 requests. You set my mind at ease and allow me to focus on being excited. I know you're getting excited to! Oh boy! Here we go!

I Need To Tell You
Each month I write a letter to you, the men and women who are Good News Church. Normally I write about the next big initiative that we are undertaking -but not this time. Often I talk about the pressing need that we as a church need to address -but we're going to pass on that for right now. Normally I try to focus everyone's attention on the issues at hand -but not today. It's not that we don't have a big initiative, a pressing need, or an issue to address -we have all of these things going on right now within the life our church. It's just that I feel compelled to say something else. I need to tell you that "I am proud of you." I need to tell you that "I'm honored." I need to tell you "thank you."
I am proud of you and this church for so many reasons. Just a few short years ago Good News Church was headed towards closing its doors, but has made a U-turn and is now headed in the right direction -something very few churches are ever able to do. Good News Church is healthy and growing (less than 15% of churches in the US can make such a claim). This 180 degree turn has required risk, change, generosity, and faith -all difficult issues. You've taken numerous risks on people, including me. You have not been content with the statuesque, but have embraced change. You have given so generously to people outside of the church: outreach events for teenagers, serving the community, responding to natural disasters around the world, providing drinking water for 3rd world nations, sending teams to serve in Mexico, giving away your resources to plant new churches, launching a new flavor of worship service (my heart swelled with pride when I saw how many from the church flooded the Front Range Mobile Home Park for the first Collision Block Party -wow!), and the list goes on. And, by faith, you have trusted God with the future of Good News Church, rather than trying to conform it to what you think a church should be or do. I am proud of you.
I am honored to be your pastor. I am confident that God has called me here and I love being here. There is nothing I would rather do with my life than lead, shepherd, and serve Good News Church. I have not said it enough, I love Good News Church -I love each one of you. Thank you for loving me too. Thank you for your trust and your friendship. Thank you for calling me your pastor. I am honored.
And finally, I need to tell you thank you for being Good News Church. The church is not the building, it is the people. You are Good News Church. This church is what it is because of you. This church could not be what it is and what it is called to be without you. Thank you for making it such a wonderful church. Thank you for being the Church. For our yesterdays, for our todays, and for our tomorrows (and I know we have even better days ahead), let me tell you, Thank you.

Price Tag
Have you ever been strolling through a shopping mall or car lot when - POW! - THE perfect product captures your attention? Perhaps it's the sporty convertible with a V-8 engine and unbelievable acceleration. Maybe it's the adorable dress that's exactly your style and has a flattering fit. Whatever the case, there's an initial moment when you're enamored with THE product. For a split second reality is suspended as you imagine the joys of owning it. Unfortunately, two words generally bring this pleasant daydream crashing to a halt: price tag. When you first think about a dream, you only see possibilities and potential; all dreams begin obstacle-free. However, at some point we have to confront the Cost Question: Are we willing to pay the price for this dream? And we're not just talking about cash. If you want to achieve a dream, you have to be willing to do more than just imagine the outcome. Dreams don't fall into our laps by accident or good fortune. They must be attained at the cost of personal sacrifice.
All of us who make up Good News Church have a dream. We dream about baptizing over 2,000 people -people who have entered into the Kingdom of God and are celebrating their growing relationship with Jesus. For this dream to become reality, we need to "pay" for it. Here's what the price tag looks like for you and me: we keep serving the world, we continue building relationships with folks who don't know Jesus, and we make room (both emotionally and physically) for the people who aren't yet a part of Good News.
Last September we physically made more room for people by adding a second worship service -and it's been a huge success, but we paid a price for it. It changed many of the dynamics of our church, but it has all been well worth the cost as our average attendance has risen since the beginning of the year to 215 people per Sunday (we were averaging about 160 people last year during the same time frame) and we have already baptized 9 people this year! This September we'll be doing it again by adding a third worship service -one we're calling the Collision.
The Collision will be Sunday nights at 6:30 on the church campus. It will offer the same nursery care as in the morning, same kid's programs as in the morning, the same sermon that was preached in the morning, preached by the same person who preached it in the morning, and will be driven by the same mission statement: to be and to make disciples of Jesus who love God, love others, and serve the world.
The only real difference between the morning services (which are not changing) and the new evening service is the "flavor" -the Collision will have an edgier atmosphere, more reminiscent of a bar than a coffee shop. The goal is to create another option for someone who says, "I tried the Sunday morning church thing, but it didn't work for me%u2026 but this is different; I'll give this a shot."
Pursuing a dream is like launching a rocket; massive amounts of energy must be expended at the beginning. Otherwise, gravity takes hold and the journey never gets off the ground. It's going to take a lot of prayer, work, and outreach for the Collision to become a reality. Chad Wright has been commissioned by the church to be the Collision Pastor, and has already logged countless hours thinking through the details, planning outreach events, and building relationships to make it happen -but he can't do it alone. We all need to find ways that we can help pay for this dream. Some of us will serve at the outreach events, some of us will take care of behind the scenes details, some will give financially, some of us will invite friends, and all of us need to be praying.
Our dream might come with a big price tag, but if we all do our part, it'll be paid off in no time!
If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas about the Collision, please feel free to contact me or Chad Wright

One Prayer
We pray to Jesus, asking him to answer our prayers. But what if we became the answer to his? In John 17:20-24, Jesus prayed that we, the church, would be one, just as he and the Father are one. During the month of June we are joining forces with over 1,500 churches around the globe to be the Church -spelled with a big "C." One Prayer is an opportunity to see what can be accomplished when the Church Shares, Serves, and Gives...as one.Share - Through One Prayer, we'll share resources with other churches and hear people finish the statement God is... We may live in different places all around the globe, but we all know and follow the one God.
Serve - During One Prayer God's people will invade their communities, serving them in Jesus' name. Every LIVE Group at Good News Church is being challenged to do a community service project during the end of June. If you're not in a LIVE Group, but are ready to serve, please contact Michael Schroeder and he'll hook you up with a group.
Give - At the end of this month we and the 1,500 other churches that we've partnered with will be taking a special offering to plant new churches. We have set a goal of starting 500 new churches in Cambodia, Southern India, Sudan, and Northern China. Yep, you read that right - 500 new churches! Yea, that's a lot, but when we, the Church work together, astounding things can happen. Let me encourage you to begin praying now about how you might give above and beyond your normal tithe.
We're coming together across cultures and continents. We're exploring who God is. We're teaming up to make a lasting difference in our world. I can't wait!

Questions
Socrates said, "The unexamined life is not worth the living." That's a pretty strong statement -one that gets me thinking. What's the difference between an "unexamined" and an "examined" life? Seems to me the answer is "Questions."Not only do we as individuals, but often churches go for long periods of time without ever asking penetrating questions about what they are doing or why. Our current message series, You Don't Have What It Takes and our upcoming series txt, both make us examine our personal lives. But when was the last time you asked some potentially game-changing questions about your church -Good News Community Church? Below you'll find some of the key questions that all churches need to address in order to build growing, innovative ministries that transform lives. I've been processing through them and I'd love for you to chew on them too:
They may not sound like very spiritual questions, but your examination today will make Good News Community Church "worth the living." Weather you've only been to one worship gathering or you've lost count how long you've been part of this church, I'd love for you to email me your thoughts on these questions. Thank you.

Chocolate
Easter's coming and that means hunks of chocolate in the shape of rabbits, little plastic eggs filled with jellybeans, ham dinner with all the fixings, and that oh-so annoying plastic Easter grass that ends up everywhere. I love the chocolate, but the reality is that none of these things has anything to do with Easter. It's so easy to get distracted from what Easter is really about. The last few words that Jesus uttered while hanging on the cross, waiting to die, tell us what Easter is really all about. They tell us why he sacrificed his own life. They give worth and meaning to our lives. They give us hope in the midst of situation in life. And they implore us not to keep him, or his words, a secret.
This isn't something that we can keep to ourselves -this is good news that we need to share with our friends, family, and co-workers. As we keep saying, we need to share this with the people who aren't here yet. I've set a personal goal of inviting 15 people -will you join me in this goal? Who will you be inviting? If we each do our part, I anticipate that the church building will be packed during both the 9am and 10:45am worship gatherings.
You and I have two tools that we can use that will make it easier to invite people to the Easter service and reach our goals. First, by now you should have received an email invite; add a personal note to the email and then forward it on to your friends. Second, pick up a pile of the postcard sized invites from the church and pass them out where ever you go -I've got a stack of them in my car, ready to go.
Also, on Sunday, April 5th we, as a church, will be invading the neighborhoods around the church to invite everyone to the Easter morning service. Don't worry, it's not as scary as you think it is. I know a lot of us are a little hesitant to knock on the door of a stranger, but with just a little coaching you'll be a professional. We'll meet up in the church sanctuary at 12:30 to get a little training on what to do and what to say. And yes, you are more then welcome to bring your kids with you.
The bottom line is that Easter's not about chocolate or bunnies. Easter is about Jesus and what he did on the cross. And we can't keep this good news to ourselves.

- Easter Service was awesome!
There were over 300 people at Good News celebrating the fact that Jesus is alive again!
I know of at least 4 people who made firs-time decisions to follow Jesus!
It was a great morning.
After church, my family and I got together with 4 or 5 other families for dinner, played Apples to Apples, and hang out -nice a low-key.
It was nice.

Sex Ed
Love, sex, porn, marriage... Over the past five weeks we've talked about it all -and in far more detail than some people had wanted. It made most of us squirm, made a few people mad, but a bunch of people found healing. I'd like to say thank you to those of you who put your personal preferences aside (maybe you didn't think this was something that should be talked about at church) so that others could be helped, healed, and restored. As we've shed God's light on issues that tend to stay hidden in the dark, God's begun the repairing process on a number of lives at Good News Church. I'll leave out the names, but let me tell you a couple of the stories in brief:
...and these are just a few of the stories that I know about -I'm sure there are more out there. I'm also sure that there are people who are still broken and suffering in these areas -and it just might be you. If you're someone who is still hurting, let me encourage you to let God heal these parts of your life. How? You can start by listening to the messages again, go to the White Elephant website, pick up one of the books that has been recommended over the past few weeks (you'll find them listed below), or talk to your LIVE Group.
So again, thank you. Thank you for putting your personal preferences aside and being willing to offer hope and healing to others. Thank you for making our church a safe place for people to deal with these kinds of sensitive issues. Thank you for showing such love and support to folks who are hurting. Thank you for being a church of such awesome people! Thank you for being the Church!

"What Were You Thinking?"
"What were you thinking?" is a common refrain I've heard multiple times over the past couple of weeks as people have learned that we're going to talk about sex at church. We constantly hear the voices of friends, the TV, the internet, movies, and books talking about sex -right? So, why are we so hesitant to listen to what God has to say about Sex?One reason some of us might be so hesitant is that we think that God doesn't have anything to say on the subject of sex -but that's just not true. I figure that since he's the one who created it (check out the last few lines of Genesis, chapter 2), he'd be the authority on the subject and weather we're single, married, divorced, or widowed, he's got something to teach each of us. Have you ever read the book in the Bible called "Song of Solomon" (or sometimes called the "Song of Songs")? It's a love song between a groom and his bride that celebrates their intimate and sexual relationship. The reality is that God has a lot to say on the subject.
Some of us may feel like it isn't proper for us to talk about sex, let alone talk about it at church. Please understand, my goal is not to make anyone uncomfortable. My goal is to help people rightly deal with a relevant issue that affects every single one of our lives. We can not afford to ignore this issue -it won't just go away. In fact, sex and sexuality is a growing issue that we all need to be better prepared to deal with, and in order to do that, we're going to have to talk about it. Do you have a friend who says that the church only talks about irrelevant things? This is the message series to invite them to. Who are you going to invite?
A final reason that I can think of that causes some of us to balk at this subject is that we know that we are not living right in this area. You know that what we're doing sexually is wrong and you don't want any one messing with it. Maybe you feel guilt and shame over it, or maybe not, but you definitely don't want any one to find you out. If this is you, you need to know that you're not alone and my hope is that we will all find healing as we go through this series together.
Now, if you hear someone say to me, "what were you thinking," you'll know how to answer them. We all need to wrestle with the Sex Ed message series and you know someone else who needs to too. Be sure to email them the audio recordings or invite them to join you this Sunday.

Dreams Become Reality
It's only January, but I'm dreaming about the first week in August. Dreaming about warmer days... traveling... some adventure... a place called San Vicente.San Vicente is a dusty little town, built off of agriculture -grapes, olives, and tomatoes mostly. It's the kind of place tourists traveling down Mexico's Baja peninsula never stop unless they are desperate for gas. But hidden away in this forgotten place are people who are precious to God. He hasn't forgotten them. In fact, God's dreaming about sending someone like you to go and introduce them to him. This adventure will be one of the highlights of your life -the kind of thing that you'll back on and wonder if it was just a dream. A chance to see another country. A chance to meet new people. A chance for God to change your perspective on life. A chance for you to make an eternal impact in the lives of other people.
Good News Church is once again partnering with a church in San Vicente and a missionary couple, Dave and Lynne Johnson who have lived and served there for the past 7 years. You can see and read about what happened when the 2008 team invaded San Vicente. You can see and read about what happened when the 2008 team invaded San Vicente -it'll give you a good idea of how to dream about your trip this summer.
Plan on being at the MISSION:Briefing on Sunday, January 18th where we'll go over all of the details for this years trip -the who, what, when, cost, etc. Attending the MISSION:Briefing does not commit you to going to San Vicente, but it is your opportunity to get all of your questions answered.
MISSION:Briefing -Sunday, January 18th @ 12:20 in the Sanctuary
MISSION:Trip -Friday, July 31st through Sunday, August 9th
No matter what your age, no matter what your experience in life, and no matter how bad your Spanish is -there's a spot available on the team for you. The question is, will you make yourself available? I'm going to make this dream a reality -what about you?

Give Presence
It's that time of year again -jingle bells are ringing, people are singing, and little colored lights are flickering all over town. It's Christmas time, "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year." Or is it?Car horns are honking, people are yelling, and shopping malls are packed to the rim. You're frantically buying presents, putting it all on a credit card, and stuck in that same routine once again. For many, it's the most miserable time of the year.
Christmas no longer seems like the holiday it was intended to be. Busyness, stress, and debt bury the season of giving, joy, and peace. We've replaced a season of celebration with a season of frustration. But it doesn't have to be like this.
Christmas isn't about presents -it's about presence. Throughout December we will be attempting to turn Christmas right-way-round through a message series called "Give Presence." God's gift to us was a relationship built on love. So it's no wonder why we're drawn to the idea that Christmas should be a time to love our friends and family in the most memorable ways possible -but maybe we need to redefine "memorable."
We'll end the "Give Presence" series with a very special Christmas Eve Celebration for you and your entire family -including your extended family. Make plans to celebrate with mom, dad, the kids, your crazy uncle, neighbors, friends, and whoever on Christmas Eve. We'll enjoy the evening together.
And, in order to practice what I'm preaching, we will not be having either worship gathering on the Sunday after Christmas. I know it sounds radical -maybe even insane- but it'll all make sense as we explore this idea of "Give Presence."
Wednesday, December 24th @ 7pm - Christmas Eve Celebration
Sunday, December 28th - No Worship Gatherings
For so many reasons, I'm looking forward to Christmas -I love Christmas! I'm also looking forward to hearing from you -because I love you and consider it an honor to be your pastor. Please feel free to email me or call me at 303-469-4457. Merry Christmas.

61 Million and Counting
The world's largest Christmas project, Operation Christmas Child has collected more than 61 million shoe box gifts in the past 15 years. Each shoe box was filled with simple things you and I take for granted, such as soap, toothbrushes, school supplies, toys, candy, and the story of Jesus. Each shoe box was delivered to a needy child in a desperate situation -for many of these children, that shoe box was the first gift they ever received. Each box lets these precious children know that despite their situation in life, God has not forgotten them, he knows them by name, and he loves them.Getting and giving Christmas gifts each December may not be life-changing events for most of us, but if you give one of these shoe boxes you will change a child's life. My family and I have filled shoe boxes for the past four years now, and it has changed our lives. It's humbling to be used by God to purchase the supplies for a shoe box and consider the wealth that God has entrusted into my hands (though by American standards I am not rich). It's awesome to consider that this box is an illustration of how God uses me to be his physical hands in this world. It's exciting to imagine how God will use me and this box to share the story of Jesus with a child and change their eternity.
During the month of November Good News Church is partnering with Operation Christmas Child to collect shoe box gifts. We have set a goal to collect enough of these shoe boxes to build a stack that reaches the ceiling in our lobby by November 23rd. My family and I have already started gathering up the supplies to fill 5 boxes -one from each person in our family. If you will join us, I am confident that we will surpass our goal. And together, as a church, we will serve the world.

- We blew past our goal! We had enough boxes to make 2 stacks to the ceiling and then some! The total was 123 boxes!
This church rocks!

- Joy is so excited to send a box to others "in need" that she walks around the house collecting her own toys to put in the box. How sweet is that? Although she asked the other day, "Mom, do I have to give them my baby (her stuffed animal)?" I love this project!

- I look forward to making up the operation Christmas child boxes and I know my kids love doing it to :) I would have to agree with DeAnna about kids changing their focus from themselves to others. It's fun to see them pick out stuff very carefully for the child they have chosen, wanting to make sure that the child who receives it will like what is inside the box.

- My loves putting these boxes together too. It helps our family remove ourselves from the "me, me, me" attitude and helps my kids to see how fortunate we are.
Target is a great place to pick stuff up, especially in their dollar bens. I encourage you to do one if you haven't before. It's a lot of fun and very rewarding.

Lord Save Us From Your Followers
At Broomfield Days we handed out over 1,200 tickets to this movie, "Lord, Save Us from Your Followers." I talked with a few hundred people, from all different walks of life -black, white, Hispanic, Asian, male, female, gay, straight, kids, teen, parents, grandparents, single, married, divorced, seeker, Christian, Muslim, atheist- and everyone asked the same question, "what's this movie about?" My response to each and every person was the same, "If the story of Jesus is the story of love, then why does it cause so much division? Why is it something that we fight about, rather than talk about? Why do people put up their armor and make "bumper-sticker" statements, rather than talk through the issues. You and I may not see eye-to-eye, but the reality is that we should value each other as people and be willing to hear each other out. This movie is an effort to start people talking."This docu-drama touches on all sorts of hot button topics, such as religion, sex, politics, social justice, and pop-culture. It utilizes a broad array of interviews, man-on-the-street bits, hilarious animation, and "I've never seen that before" stunts. View a trailer for the movie and get more information. View a trailer for the movie and get more information. This movie will give you and your friends plenty to think about and talk about.
We will be showing the movie two times. Once on Sunday, October 19th, at 9:30 am at the church building (the Tide Pool, Reef, Deep Sea, and Pier 56 will all be available for your little ones). The second showing will be on Wednesday, October 22nd at 6:30 pm at the Broomfield Auditorium (in the same building as the Broomfield Library). And of course there will be handing out pop-corn at both showings.
Please plan on attending both showings of the movie. Once on Sunday morning, so you can see it for yourself and see what it's all about. Then be sure to invite your neighbors, co-workers, and friends to the Wednesday night showing at the Audi. The Audi holds nearly 300 people, and our goal is to fill every seat -and the nice thing about showing the movie at the Audi is that it is safe, neutral ground to invite your friends who wouldn't normally be able to invite to an event at the church campus.
I'm really looking forward to what kind of discussions this movie will spark. My hope and prayer is that somewhere in the midst of these discussions, people will be eternally impacted by the story of love and will accept Jesus Christ as their savior. I'm going to keep handing out movie tickets during the next few weeks, and I hope you will too.

- It's a must see movie!
Last month we popped up cases of popcorn and ran two screenings of the movie "Lord, Save Us From Your Followers," showing the movie to nearly 200 adults. That's all well and good, but the most exciting part is that 63% of those people are new to Good News Church, and we are seeing those guests return on Sunday mornings for worship services. All of this means that our efforts at Broomfield Days and personally inviting friends was a real success.
"Lord, Save Us From Your Followers" has left the big screen, but you can still catch it on the small screen in your living room. If you have not yet seen the movie, have a friend you would like to show the film to, or want to watch it again with your LIVE Group, you are welcome to borrow one of the copies of the DVD. Contact Lorie Schroeder at Lorie@GoodNewsChurch.org or 303-469-4457 to make the arrangements. Don't miss this opportunity.

Painting a Picture of "Impact 5 X 10"
A mission statement paints the picture of why we exist. Phrased another way, the mission statement declares what an organization will and will not do. You probably already know it by heart, but Good News Church's mission statement is to be and to make disciples who love God, love others, and serve the world.A vision statement paints the picture of what tomorrow will look like. In more technical terms (for all the engineers), the vision statement clarifies the specific outcomes that an organization hopes to achieve when they live out their mission statement. Put simply (for the rest of us), it's the goal we're shooting for. Good News Church's Mission Statement is Impact 5x10.
All great works of art are inspired by something. Impact 5x10 is inspired by some of Jesus' last words to his friends, family, and followers. "Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age" (Matthew 28:18-20).
What does Impact 5x10 mean? By "Impact," we mean an "eternal impact" where people's eternal destinies are changed and they become those "disciples" that Jesus was talking about. Our goal is to see a number equal to 5% of Broomfield's population be eternally impacted within 10 years (i.e. "5x10"). Broomfield currently has almost 50,000 residents. 5% of 50,000 is 2,500. The vision is to eternally impact 2,500 people within 10 years. And no, they don't all have to live in Broomfield -Good News Church just happens to be in Broomfield, and so we are using it's population number as a bench mark.
It's this vision of Impact 5x10 that drives us to constantly introduce men and woman, boys and girls, to Jesus Christ and help them build a dynamic relationship -the kind that leaves an eternal impact on them. The Bible calls someone in this kind of a relationship with Jesus a "disciple" -I like to call this kind of person a "Jesus follower." Regardless of the label you put on it, the normal, outward expression of this kind of inward change and dynamic relationship with God is to be baptized -reaching that point in their relationship with God, where they are baptized, is an easy point of measurement for us as we try to track an elusive term like "eternal impact").
It's this vision of Impact 5x10 that is driving us to launch a new worship gathering -going from one worship service on Sunday mornings to two. We need to make more room for the people who don't yet have a dynamic relationship with God. Have you decided which service time you will be attending? 9 am or 10:45 am? Have you decided which service time you will be serving at? 9 am or 10:45 am? God wants to use you to paint the tomorrows of Good News Church. Adding this second service is a stretch for our church, but if we all do a part of it and work together as a team we will be successful.
Read more of my thoughts on Impact 5x10. And if you have any thoughts about it that you would like to share with me, please feel free to email me or call me at 303-469-4457. I look forward to talking with you and I am excited about the tomorrows that God will paint using us.
