Moreno Valley is a city located in Riverside County, California. As of January 1, 2008, the population of Moreno Valley was 180,466.[1] A relatively young city, its rapid growth in the 1980s and the 2000s propelled it to its status as second-largest city in Riverside County by population, and one of the Inland Empire's population centers. Neighboring Riverside, California is the county seat and largest city in the county; the two cities are closely tied, sharing March Air Reserve Base, among other things.

Geography of Moreno Valley
One of the most visible geographical features in Moreno Valley, visible from almost anywhere in the city, is Box Springs Mountain. This mountain at the northwest end of the city towers over the city, providing a concrete landmark. The face of the mountain that faces the city has a large "M" constructed upon it. This was built privately at the encouragement of the City Council, which argued it would foster unity. The letter is located on public land and is maintained entirely by charity. The letter had lights installed on December 3, 2005 to celebrate Moreno Valley's 21st anniversary of its incorporation and the completion of the repairs of heavy damage to the M, due to excessive rain the year before. The mayor at that time, Bonnie Flickinger, has said that the citizens liked it that way and that the council would try to get it to light up regularly. No lights have been installed as of 20 August 2007. Several Eagle Scout projects have been dedicated to maintaining the letter.
Healthcare in Moreno Valley
* Moreno Valley Community Hospital is a General Acute Care Hospital with Basic Emergency Services as of 2005. An election on November 8, 2007, Measure G, which would approve the sale of this hospital and all other hospitals owned by Valley Health System and its assets to a doctor working there's investment company, based in Ocenside, was voted against by voters in 54% to 46%. Now, as of February 2008, Kaiser Permanente's purchase has officially been approved and is underway. The deal will be permanently closed by April 2008. Unlike the other company's deal, they will only acquire the one hospital, and not the others owned by Valley Health System or its assets. Valley Health System continues layoff (although somewhat insignificant) and may file bankruptcy.
* Riverside County Regional Medical Center is a General Acute Care Hospital with Basic Emergency Services and a Level II Trauma Center as of 2005.
* Kaiser Permanente is a clinic with no emergency services. Kaiser Permanente is also officially purchasing Moreno Valley Community Hospital, but originally fell through due to Valley Health System, the owner of Moreno Valley Community Hospital wanting to sell it to a different company owned by an employee of the hospital. Despite all of this, Kaiser's purchase of the one hospital is now officially underway as of March 2008 because of voters' rejection of Measure G in November, 2008. As of early 2008, Kaiser Permanente does not have a unit with emergency services in Moreno Valley, the nearest one being in Riverside. [5][6]
* Kaiser Permanente officially acquired the Moreno Valley Community Hospital. Current Kaiser Permanente members began receiving notification of the purchase in March 2008. Moreno Valley residents will not feel the effects of the acquisition immediately, as Kaiser Permanente members were asked to continue using the nearby Riverside facility for hospital services while the transition process is completed. The Riverside Press Enterprise reports that Kaiser is hopeful about increasing the size of the new hospital by adding a new 80+ patient tower, as well as increasing the size of the emergency and operating rooms.
