Morgantown, WV is a small to medium sized town in North Central West Virginia. It is west of the Appalachian Mountains, borders the Monongahela River, and has four seasons.
Morgantown, WV is the place we call home; it is our second time living in Morgantown. The first time was for about three years while my husband finished up going to college. For the second time, we've been here for twenty plus years. I'll share with some tips and things I know about living in Morgantown, WV.

Morgantown and Football
For many, Morgantown is synonymous with Football.
Football days are big in Morgantown. If you're going to the game, leave early if you want a good parking spot. If you're going to the mall, movies, etc. on game day, time your travels way before or way after or during the game.

WVU and the PRT
The WVU campus is spread out between two campuses.
The Personal Rapid Transportation (PRT) system is used by WVU to aid students in traveling back and forth between campuses. The general public is also allowed to use them. They run on weekdays, game days and on other special University events. When the PRT is down, the WVU buses are used as backup.

Entertainment in Morgantown, WV
There are two movie theaters in Morgantown, WV; Carmike, and Hollywood.
There are two bowling alleys; Suburban Lanes and Sycamore Lanes. They both offer 10 pen bowling.
There are several golfing venues in the area: Lakeview Golf Resort & Spa, Meadow Ponds Golf Course, Mountaineer Golf Course, and Paradise Lake Golf Course.
For a variety of things to do like bowling, batting cages, arcades and more in one place, people visit Valley Worlds of Fun in nearby Fairmont West Virginia.
For swimming, there are two public pools in the Morgantown area: Krepps Pool which is in the Suncrest area and Marilla Pool which is in Sabraton.
There is a wave pool in nearby Fairmont, WV; in Pleasant Valley.
There are plays offered at the Creative Arts Center (The CAC), and also at the Metropolitan Theater.
Concerts are held at the CAC and also the Coliseum, which is where the WVU Mountaineers play basketball.
Another option for entertainment is at the Amphitheater on the riverfront near downtown. Festivals, concerts, and family movies are popular events there over the summer. You can watch the video below:

Fun for the Kids in Morgantown

- The Wow Factory is located on University Avenue in Star City. It is a place for kids and the kid in you to have fun creating ceramic, mosaic, and glass pieces. Hours are 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Hot Air Balloon Festival
weather permitting, is a yearly event.
The Mountaineer Hot Air Balloon Festival is usually held annually in the autumn in and near Morgantown, West Virginia. Weather cooperating, you are treated to a beautiful sky scape of colorful Hot Air Balloons. You can also go out and enjoy the festival of carnival rides, art demonstrations, music, food, and more.

There are two large movie theaters in Morgantown; The Carmike at the Morgantown Mall, and Hollywood Theatres in the University Town Center in Granville.
Parking in Morgantown
There are several parking garages in downtown Morgantown. There is one by the Public Safety Building (near the Library); the entrance is on Spruce Street.
There is one on Don Knotts Blvd., also known as part of University Avenue. If you're heading South, it is before you get to the Westover Bridge.
There is also a smaller parking garage on Plesant Street. The lower level entrance is on Pleasant Street and the upper level entrance is on Chestnut Street.
There are also some parking lots scattered around: one on Spruce Street across from the library; one behind Daniels, located on High Street, and one on the corner of Pleasant Street and Spruce Street.
One street parking is metered and most are for 2 hours.

Recycling in Morgantown, WV
Many places in and around Morgantown have curbside recycling, in addition to recycle bins placed at several of the shopping areas, and a recycling center. The Recycling Center is located off of River Road, about a mile from the Westover Bridge from downtown Morgantown.
The recycling center accepts:
plastic milk jugs,
plastic soda bottles,
#1 and #2 plastic,
soda cans,
pet food cans,
cardboard - cereal boxes and also paper bags,
newspapers,
phone books,
magazines,
soup/vegetable cans,
catalogs,
office paper.

Scuba Diving in Morgantown, WV?
Scuba diving may be the last thing you'd expect to learn in the mountain state of West Virginia, but you can. Located in Sabraton on the Greenbag Road is Mountaineer Scuba. They are open Mon - Fri 2-7 p.m., and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. They offer classes for various age groups and can be reached at 291-9610 or (866) 544-DIVE (3483).

- My husband and I used to go to Morgantown quite often when we lived in southwestern Pennsylvania. I remember wandering around downtown a lot and always stopping into the outdoors store. There were lots of good restaurants, and I think our favorite coffeeshop there was called the Blue Moose. We always spent a full day there and enjoyed it a lot.

- The Blue Moose is still down town and a popular spot for open mic. They have nights for music and poetry that I know of. We do get up to Pittsburgh occasionally and enjoy the theaters and South Hills Village Mall.
