A Mama Duck and her Babies!!

This story is about a mother mallard duck and her five ducklings.

I met them on July 13, 2008 at Twin Lakes, located in Greensburg, PA which is about a 1/2 hour from our hometown.

I went back often to visit to get photos of them and the progress of their lives growing up.

I noticed in the beginning, there was one duckling that seem to be the "renegade" and unfortunately when I went to visit one time, there were only four of the five babies.

The Babies are growing up fast!

Here are some of the ducklings that I took photos of two weeks ago! They sure are growing fast!

New Year, New Family!

This is just one of THREE momma ducks I encountered at Twin Lakes on June 19th! (spend my birthday doing one of my favorite things....stalking babies ;) - and...taking their photos!)

This momma had seven, one of the others had eight, and the last one I got photos of had nine!

Can you imagine!? Twenty four little ducklings!

I will be going back next week to see how they are growing! And keep you posted!

Our first day together!

I took this video the first day I visited the mom and her babies. They are so cute to watch as they are learning "the ropes".

The are very attentive and really look proud when they do something right!

I'm Growing Up So Fast!

This little guy is NOT camera shy!

He didn't mind at all that I was there watching him.

The people passing by probably thought I was nuts talking to him, but then again, I am the "Crazy Camera Lady"!

Two Little Ducks with the "Feathers on it's backs"

"they lead the other with their quack, quack, quack!"

Like the old children's song (kinda). It's been years since I heard THAT one, so correct me if I am wrong!

Really, these ducklings do stick pretty much together!

Off for a Swim!

Nap time is over, all are rested! Now....

The mom and babies are off for an adventure.

Where will they end up? What will they do? Who will they see?

Mom is going to teach them some survival skills!

We eat Bugs???

These three little ones are watching mom get food from just below the surface of the water.

Watch how attentive they are! And later, they were doing the same!!

Now for more good food!

Look close! You can see the babies eating along the shore of the lake.

They make the funniest noise when doing this. The noise was my clue where to find them at times!

The Ducklings are Growing

I went to visit the Mama Duck and her babies a week later, just to see how they grew!

I waited, and waited, and waited.

Next thing I know, up comes Mama Duck! She was making sure the "Crazy Camera Lady" was watching!

Soon the little ones came out....not far behind her.

The only sad thing, one was missing. I think it had been the "renegade" of the group.

Time to change feeding grounds!

These three little ones are quick to follow Mama when she moves!

Don't worry, the other one is not far behind!

Great Lens about Mallards!!!!

cute or what? - I'm sure you would enjoy meeting some of my feathered friends too. Last year I was lucky enough to be able to photo one mallard mama sheltering her little ones from the rain, including one adorable yellow one. So far this year I am watching 6 goose nests, 2 moorhens nests and 1 swan's - can't WAIT for the babies!
    Thumbs up

I just love ducks. My whole kitchen is mallard ducks! Some people tell me that's "its so early 90's" but I don't care Ms. Crazy Camera, I love my ducks! Keep on shooting that camera because we all love it! It's very original and something I don't see here on Squidoo. Videos are so much better than reading paragraph after paragraph sometimes. This is very refreshing indeed.

I love me some Crazy Camera Lady! Your a favorite for sure!!

I am entered in the Fresh Squid Contest for May, my lens Daycare School Online is tied for first place....every vote helps! As a fellow Fresh Squid I'm sure you can understand the importance of this dilemma? Ha Ha
