Motörhead, Classified Heavy Metal, Speed Metal Or Thrash Metal Had Foundational Influence On Latter Two Styles
From London, England, Motor Head is a very popular band that was first started back in 1975. Lemmy Kilmister was the original founder of the band and formed the band after his time was over with the band Hawkwind. In the early 1980s, the band enjoyed amazing success, especially in England, and a variety of their songs showed up on the UK Top 40 Charts during the 80s. Although they enjoyed early success, the band is still continuing to enjoy popularity and fame, even in 2007. Most critics would label Motor Head as a heavy metal or a speed metal band; however, the band prefers to call their type of music rock and roll.
Although the band is known as Motor Head, the original name that Lemmy wanted for the band was Bastard. Since the band's manager did not feel that the band could go anywhere with a name like Bastard, Lemmy then changed the name of the band to Motor Head, which was actually the title of a song he had written for the band he had previously been in, Hawkwind. The name Motor Head is actually a slang term that refers to someone who uses amphetamines.
While Lemmy was a bassist and vocalist, Larry Wallis played the electric guitar and Lucas Fox played the drums in the first ever appearance by this band. Later due to problems with Fox, Phil Taylor would replace him as the drummer for the band. Wallis later quit the band as well and today Eddie Clark then took over the position of electric guitarist. The current lineup for the band is Lemmy Kilmister doing vocals and bass guitar, Phil Campbell playing the electric lead guitar, and Mikkey Dee on drums.
Motor Head has released a variety of different albums starting out with their initial album called Motorhead, which was their first album released in 1977. Their most recent album was released in 2006 and was named Kiss of Death. In between these albums, they released many others, such as Inferno, Sacrifice, Bastards, No Sleep at All, Iron Fist, No Remorse, Hammered, Overkill, and Ace of Spades.
With so many different releases over the years, it was no surprise that this band finally took home a Grammy in 2005. They won a Grammy award for their cover of Whiplash, which was originally released by Metallica. Since then the band has continued to be popular all around the world and has enjoyed very successful tours, both in Europe and in the United States. The band has also had a variety of their songs used in movies, with one of the most well known being You'd Better Swim, which was actually rewritten from their song You'd Better Run for the SpongBob SquarePants Movie. With their unique blend of rock and metal, this band is headed for even more success in the future.
