Motorbike Helmets: Full Face Versus Modular Helmets

First off, when it comes to modular helmets and full face helmets it is important to say that both helmets are "full face" they both offer protection to your entire face which is a great benefit and the biggest safety help in the case of a potentially bad accident.

But these motorbike helmets differ in that the full face helmets have a fixed chin bar while the modular full face helmets have a hinged chin bar which can be rotated up and down. This allows for more helmet freedom.

The modular helmet gives you the ability to simply lift the chin bar and face mask up to do simple tasks like pumping gas, taking a sip of water, eating a snack, and talking with a friend... with the traditional full face, you would have to completely remove the helmet.

So whats the argument? After all, with that information it seems as if the modular helmet would be the clear winner... well, no. There isn't a winner or a loser, it's just a preference among riders.

The full face helmets are often lighter and a bit more quiet while riding. Also, while both helmets are DOT approved for safety, the modular helmet has not been approved by more vigorous testing such as Snell. Some people agree with these testing regulations while others don't... it's up to you.
