Why I Love Mounds Candy Bars
I have to admit, it's pretty tough to choose just one candy bar to name as my favorite. But time after time I come back to the lovely Mounds candy bar, with its scrumptious coconut filling enrobed in luscious dark chocolate. My mouth is watering just thinking about these decadent treats. The first food to introduce me to dark chocolate, these delectable candy bars bring back warm feelings of nostalgia. I think part of its appeal is because I don't eat them very often. They aren't thrown in my face in TV ads or in as many store displays at eye level. But despite the lack of recent and aggressive advertising these candy bars still have staying power!

A Little Bit of Mounds Candy Bar History
Mounds is a candy bar made by Hershey's, and is the sister product of Almond Joy. Like Almond Joy, it consists of a coconut based center; however, it is topped with dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate and has no almond in its center.
Mounds uses a packaging and logo design similar to its sister product, with Almond Joy's blue replaced by red. The candy's famous 1970s ad campaign used a jingle, "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't", written by Leon C...

What's So Great About Mounds?

For the longest time, Mounds bars were the only source of dark chocolate in my life. I've really been enjoying the surge in dark chocolate popularity in recent years! And the fact that dark chocolate has lots of healthy antioxidants is another point in its favor. There's just something about the combination of that rich dark chocolate and that sweet, creamy coconut filling. They complement each other so well! The chocolate coating is the perfect thickness - not so much that it overshadows the coconut, and not so little that you can barely taste it. Dark chocolate is a bold taste, it stands up and screams "notice me!" and refuses to meekly dissolve into the background. No mousy chocolate here! And that creamy coconut filling is perfection. The texture is spot on. It's got enough body to be substantial, while still remaining melt-in-your-mouth good.
Don't get me wrong, I like almonds, and enjoy a good Almond Joy candy bar too. I'm even willing to compromise! I'll be keeping my eyes open for a DARK CHOCOLATE ALMOND JOY! (Hershey's, I'm talking to you!)
