"Music--The Gift that Keeps Giving"

Ranked #33,029 in Entertainment, #391,922 overall

Music has a Multitude of Benefits

Music—the Gift that Keeps Giving seemed like an appropriate title because music has so many benefits.
It is a prescription for boosting Immunity,  The thing is, music never stops giving to us.

Music can put us in a special mood, it can make us energetic when we aren't, it can help us recall very special memories and feelings, it can improve behavior, it can keep me exercising when I think I am tired, it boosts immunity, it can reduce crime, it can help de-stress us.

I love the fact that music can move and send me to another place, and another era.

In the last few years it has been discovered that music is very therapeutic.    It is being used for surgery, to help preemies to gain weight and thrive, for people with Alzheimer's, to help us heal, to distract us from pain which is why it is so helpful in delivery rooms, to reduce blood pressure and sooth nerves. etc.   Music even affects our brain waves.   Music has so many benefits there is no way that one article or site will cover all of it, but, I will share some of what I learned with you.

When you want to give a gift that keeps giving day after day, week after week and year after year, then think of music. It gives so much- means so much, yet costs so little.

We have our dear cancer warriors that are in the fight of their lives. So, for those very special ones just think about how a daily dose of music will build up strength, power, adrenaline and determination. Music just keeps on giving.

I Will Survive: The Anthology- by the Amazing Gloria Gaynor

She is one of the Queens of Music

This 2 disc CD is rated 4 1/2 Stars. It is considered the best Gloria Gaynor collection ever

I love the music of "I will Survive" by the fabulous Gloria Gaynor It is upbeat, inspirational, strong, and powerful. I also love to workout to it. OK I admit it-- it is one of my favorites.

I remember one ice skating champion, Elizabeth Manley from Canada winning a tough competition using "I Will Survive.". I think it was in 1999. It motivated and strengthened her too. Oh, and she used the Gloria Gaynor version too.

Also, if you or someone you care about are in the fight of their life, just think about how a daily dose of this could build up the fighting spirit including strength, power, adrendelin and determination.

Allow music to keep giving to you.

Research Demonstrates Therapeutic Benefits of Music

From Health to Moods and Behavior -- also Affected by Music

Music is Therapeutic

There are many benefits to using music. physiotherapist Dr Frances le Roux, who studied the use of music to improve the outcome in people with bronchitis and pneumonia being treated at her practice. Le Roux's used music in her treatment.
She was examining the effect of the music on the immune system, the endocrine system (hormonal changes), as well as the psychological state of the patients, and says the intervention showed significant change, positively influencing emotions, decreasing the stress hormone cortisol and improving immune markers.

A study conducted at Brunel University in England demonstrated that motivational music was able to enhance the endurance of those exercising on a treadmill up to 15%. They used music from Queen, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Madonna. It might be even more effective to choose the tempo of the music appropriately to the speed you want to exercise. Lively music can certainly help pump us up. I know I love using Let's Get Physical by Olivia Newton John when I workout and other music that helps keep my adrenalin pumping. -It helps. I have been told that some others feel the same way.

Use Music to Deal with Pain

Music and pain share the same neural pathways, according to Joanne Loewy, music therapist at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Ms Loewy presented her findings at a November meeting of the American Psychiatric Association in Philadelphia.

The result of this is it can reduce the pain that accompanies spinal taps, by occupying the neural pathways before the procedure begins so the patient doesn't feel pain. Isn't that useful information?

Mood Music helps the Emotions

I am sure each that every one of us has experienced music putting us in different moods. Some music might make us feel romantic, some music makes us want to get up and move, some music affects us by making us reminisce. I'm sure you've heard a song that brings you back to a certain time, place and feeling. I know I have.

If we are agitated we are able to listen to music that is capable of calming and relaxing us. If we are sad we are able to listen to music that is fun and has an upbeat and happy feel. If our get up and go has got up and gone, we can listen to music that will help motivate, or energizes us. Music is quite a phenomenon.

But, whether we want to implement a feeling or not-- anytime is a good time to listen and enjoy music.

Music has an effect on improving Behavior

I thought this was very interesting. In 2004, in London England, the British Transport Police played classical music in some of the most dangerous underground stations. These statistics were noted after 6 months:

1. Robberies were decreased by 33%.
2. Staff assaults decreased by 25%.
3. Vandalism went down 37%.

Here is another case study; in West Palm Beach in 2001 the police put a CD player and speakers on an abandoned building in a high crime area. After playing classical music 24 hours a day for about 3 months, shootings, loiterers, drug deals and thefts all decreased.

Pretty effective, wouldn't you say that music gives and gives?

What do you think?

I Dreamed A Dream--- Susan Boyle

4 1/2 Stars with 351 Reviews

Who of us hasn't been affected by this woman. She cared for her mom, and only then
did she decide to do something with the beautiful gift of her voice.

Part of only one review:
I Dreamed A Dream, Susan Boyle's debut album, is a showcase for her crystal clear voice, untouched by the technological gimmicks on which so many singers rely. The production is a spare canvas against which her pure, gorgeous vocals are displayed to wonderful effect. The result is an album that owes its power solely to Boyle's self-assured artistry.

I will only add that it is just fabulous!

Grease (Original 1978 Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Olivia Newton-John, John Travolta, Stockard Channing, Frankie Valli, and War

139 Reviews and most are 5 STAR !!

I can't believe how inexpensive this is.

I don't know about you, but, this is a great favorite of mine.

I even did a rebounding video to it last year.

"Summer Nights" the first duet between John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, features members of the cast.

"Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee" is sung by Stockard Channing when making fun of Sandy, with references to Elvis, Troy Donahue, and Doris Day making it a look back at the late 50's.

The song "Hopelessly Devoted To You" was tailor-made for Newton-John, a ballad alternately with steel guitars one moment, strings the next.

"Why this car is automatic, it's systematic, it's hydromatic. Why it's greased lightning!" For fun and energy,Elvis and Eddie A great song accompanying the spanking red hot rod fantasy sequence.

"It's Raining On Prom Night," sung by Cindy Bullens, is another vintage 50's-type slow ballad, and is the song that plays when Sandy goes to the jukebox, only to have Danny make fun of the jock she's hanging out with.

Frankie Avalon's slow-dance "Beauty School Dropout" is a nod back to the days when his "Venus" was a big hit, the doo-wop style female accompaniment includis Stockard Channing. This number was done in the guardian angel (Avalon) telling Frenchie to get her act together and go back to school.

"Rock And Roll Party Queen" can be briefly heard in the dance segment when the people start entering the decorated gym.

The 50s/70s dynamic is Sha-Na-Na, style is just what I like. Their songs is one fun track after another, from Danny and the Juniors' "Rock And Roll Is Here To Stay," the slow dance of "Those Magic Changes," Little Anthony's "Tears On My Pillow," Big Mama Thornton's "Hound Dog," the climactic and fun-brimmed "Born To Hand Jive," and then a cover of "Blue Moon."

Travolta's solo song "Sandy," done after Sandy storms out of his car after his manhandling her, is more a defense than an apology, as he says in the monologue that she hurt him. Travolta's actually not bad, replicating 50's-style..

Next, is another Stockard Channing solo, "There Are Worse Things I Could Do" and a reprise of "Sandra Dee" by Olivia Newton-John, before the final blowout. In the interview segment of the video, Olivia Newton-John herself knew that with the bouncy bassline throughout the energetic "You're The One That I Want," the second Travolta duet, was going to be a hit, and it was. And in the movie, it's followed by the equally vivacious "We Go Together," which could've been a single.

This is a fantastic soundtrack from the 70's and perhaps of all time.

You won''t be disappointed!

Music and Our Brain

Music and Our Brain

It has been charted that the beat of music can affect our brain waves.

Music researchers are finding correlations between music making and some of the deepest workings of the human brain. Research has linked active music making with increased language discrimination and development, math ability, improved school grades, better-adjusted social behavior, and improvements in "spatial-temporal reasoning," - a cornerstone for problem solving.-from American Music Conference. That's pretty intense.

So,if you need a more positive state of mind, use music. If you need to intensify your learning skills, use music. If you are depressed or anxious, use music (if you add exercise to this equation you'll get even better results)

Music is also known to help with improving our immunity and- easing our muscle tension.

Is it any wonder that Music Therapy has come into its own? For more information on music therapy please go to the American Music Therapy Association's Site.

In the meantime, instead of reaching for another pill luxuriate by filling your heart and make it swell with good music. More than that -use music to boost your immune system and promote your wellness. It causes only joy.

I told you that music keeps giving and giving.

You and your family are worth investing in and listening to great music.

Olivia Newton-John and the Sydney Symphony: Live at the Sydney Opera House (2008)

50 Reviews and most gave it a 5 Star rating

Here's a sample of one review:

Move over Cher and Madonna--and go away Striesand! Hang it up, Celine and Mariah---Olivia shows how a true "Diva" is supposed to do it LIVE!!

This DVD concert covers it all--From her 1st Single "If not for you" all the way up to her "Stronger Than Before" cd released in 2004--Olivia and her music has stood the test of time!

Some DVD concerts have some lows with ho-hum songs and you wanna skim thru them--with this concert, YOU WILL WANT TO WATCH EVERY MINUTE--not only cuase of all the great songs, but the musical production. Olivia has to have the best put together pop band out there. The musicians and backing vocalist were top notch on the concert.

You can check them out for yourself.
