Mutts Seem To Have More Of A Balance AND Longevity

Are Golden Retrievers Better Than Mixed Breeds? Or Visa versa?

My dog Ulysses is a pure breed Golden Retriever.
Mukunda is a mix between a Golden Retriever and an Australian Shepherd.

You'd think Ulysses would be the mellow dog who leads the thief to the family jewels.

While neither dog will do this, Ule is the fiercest of the two.

He kills cats and chickens. And groundhogs and ---well anything he can sink his teeth into.

Ulysses hates other dogs and fights any dog his size or bigger.

But he loves smaller dogs.

Mukunda is a sweetheart whose soul joy is herding all of us into our special places.

So are pure breeds in general more quirky? Are Mutts the way to go??

Yes, you're right!

mukunda22 says:

Ulysses is a pisces like his mama--we both are moody at times, so we hang out and are moody together.

Joan4 says:

We have had many dogs, but the two Golden Retrievers we have enjoyed have both been more polite, loving and well-mannered naturally than most of the others. I honestly cannot imagine life without a Golden!

No way, Monkeybrain!

I appreciate your visit, Dan, and for your love of the lovely mixed breed!! I love them all!!

CleanerLife says:

Let me clarify that I've never had a Golden Retriever, My favorite dog was such a Mutt that you could not make out what mix he was. :)

OhMe says:

I think it all depends on their upbringing

I love Golden Retrievers, but all of my dogs have been unwanted mutts. When we're able to have a dog again, we'll probably adopt a couple from a rescue foundation or shelter.

Super dooper lens! I've never had a Golden in my life but I've had a mutt (part Llaso Apso and mutt), a purebred Irish Setter, and a purebred Sheltie. Pug, the mutt was a wonderfully intelligent dog who's only quirk was that he hated for my husband to correct him...he would go potty in Jeff's shoe after a scolding. Actually I found that hysterical! Cid the Setter was a loveable clumsy oof with the biggest heart you ever met. Fritz, the Sheltie was the best dog I ever shared my life with. Loving, sweet, intelligent, funny. Miss all of them and can't say their pedigree had much to do with their personalities. All were very special.

I have to admit that our female golden will pout if she is not included on a walk or a trip to the driving range. She also mourns terribly if hubby is out of town. If she is unhappy, she simply goes to her crate and stays there and refuses to interact. I like to think she is just more sensitive than moody. Super lens, here! Love it!
