This Lens Is About The Effect That Cats Have On You
The Story Of Two Unlikely Sisters
Sophie and Fawna
Fawna was a happy Bengal cat living at home with her sister of the same age, Gizmo. They were very, very happy together. She had come to me from a breeder, who did not want her anymore because she could not reproduce anymore. Shame on them!At any rate, life was going well, Fawna was a happy cat. Then Gizzy became ill with some sort of kidney illness. We took her to the vet repeatedly, but they told me there was nothing more to do for her except "manage her pain". That was not an acceptable solution for me, she was suffering so much. I had her put to sleep. What a traumatic day! It still makes me sad and it was over a year ago.
Fawna was lost without her sister. She howled all night long, for days. I do mean ALL night! She roamed and howled, it was so sad. She just seemed lost without her Gizzy. Of course, I was too!
It was clear that she needed a new cat to bond with. She doesn't do well on her own. So, enter little Miss Sophie. My heart was not into getting another kitten. I do not feel that they are interchangeable anymore than humans are. But, I do love Fawna and so, the hunt for a new little friend started.
We drove to Greenville to meet a nice woman who had found a clean, healthy, tiny litter of kittens in the garbage. Some people, suck! She sent a photo and off we went. Truth be told, she was just adorable. We met, and she was so sweet, I had to take her home. We also took her brother to be the kitten of another girl with me.
Then the fun began! LOL, she was all of the size of my palm, but thought that she was a lion. She would only be able to walk around for a minute or two, then collapse on the floor asleep. Little kitties use up all their strength! Poor little girl!
She decided that she was queen bee, right away. She would put her back up, hiss, growl, and try to scare off poor Fawna. Fawna never even hissed back. She just kept looking at her like, "what are you doing here?". It was very funny. Sophie would do that thing where a kitten puts it's back up and kind of hops while hissing. I was dying.
It took about four days for them to relax. Then they bonded almost immediately. It has been nothing but wild with them since. They play, and play and play. Of course, that means a lot of wrestling! However, it seems the favorite place to wrestle these days, under my Christmas Tree!!
I will write more about them later. I am uploading a couple of photos of my little angels!
Why Do We Love Out Cats So Much?
I would have to say for me, they are members of the family. My little girls are just that, my little girls! They have their own thoughts, personalities, quirks, and moods. I think that they are just like us! Even when you are in a bad or down mood, they can do something or snuggle or come up to you and you feel better, even if just for a few moments. The relationships with cats and cat people are unique. Just as unique as the individuals are. One thing that I believe we can all agree on is, they purr their way into our hearts and we love our way into theirs!
