It is hard to change. I have needed to change something about my life and have been unaccepting that the direction I was going in is not the way to go.. I have been ringing my hands worried about about my situation for the past few years and have been unemployed for almost a year and before that my opportunities seemed to be getting smaller while my bills kept getting larger. Oh I prayed and prayed over my bills and ended up going bankrupt and have been depending on my family, ex-husband and, even my son to help me get thru these hard times. I applied for many different jobs over the past several years hoping to be able to pull myself up. Prior to having all this difficulty I had settled down to build a massage therapy practice. I did a lot of volunteer work with it but not much work for pay I loved the work but what I did not like was all the regulation, fees, fines, ced, in order to continue to legally practice. So after I was thru being regulated I was regulated out of my practice. I just can't be so regulated I hated it I spent more money on being regulated than I made.
My education is varied I learned to read at a very early age. One of my mother's friends was a nurse and she knew that I was very interested in the human body and that I loved books so she gave me her college nursing text books and I began to read them. I was a real challenge for my teachers and they wanted to advance me in school because I could read when I got there. My mom insisted that I stay in age appropiate classes. I became very borded with school I did make good grades the music and art classes saved me as well as my teachers alot of head ache In college I started taking music and art courses. The college I went to wanted me to consider getting a degree in mathmatics which although I have a definate tallent for I was not really too interested in math as a study, Later I did start taking physiology classes because of needing to have some science credits. It was boring too. I started getting certificates after getting my associated degree. I have certificats in fitness and nutrition, massage therapy, first aid/cpr, teaching first aid/cpr, herbology, polarity therapy, ect, ect.....
I have worked in the entertainment field and when nothing was happening with that or I wanted to get off the road I worked in restaurants, I also had a business making custom furniture and worked with other craftsmen to make jewerly, signs, screen printing, and portraits ect...I am a songwritter, musician, dancer, art restorer, seamstress, costumer, I have sold used cars, I worked for an insurance company boy that job really made me angry when I saw what a rip off it is. You see I did the math in my head and I could see that the insurance companies were making a lot of money and the people were getting ripped off. I knew they could take down America and I tried to expose the scam at least to my friends but everyone just kept paying for it anyway including myself. Now look at us bailing them out but, that's another story.
So, I have started selling advertising for an online and print magazine in the music industry. I am very excited about it! You may think that I am nuts for going into this field because of the economic crunch we are going thru at this time.
My mission
As I have already stated I have been in and out of the music and entertainment business for a good portion of my life. I started learning to play music as a child. I have played music and written songs for a while and also have done work with Cable Public Access TV (CPA tv) directing , producing, working sound and cameras in my area for a number of years. All of this work with CPA tv has been on a volunteer basis. The really good thing for me is that I have laid a lot of ground work in these industries with good solid connections by giving to my community.
One good reason for me to get into this new area (for me) in the music industry is because there are so many people who play music and buy music equipment. Music helps everyone and I am glad to help more music get played by helping to introduce new technology into the field by selling advertising to companies that manufacture and distribute equipment for musicians. Also I have always had knowledge of equipment and what musicians like.
I had to get some courage to change and trade my spandex and sequined duds in for a couple of suits to go and meet with the people who own music related businesses it feels good to change and learn something new about the music industry that I never even thought about being relevant before now.
Well I hope the music industry stays strong people need music it does sooth the savage beast ya know.... I have been playing music since I was a little kid most of the people in my circle of friends are either musicians or artist so the industry is something I know it is in my blood so to say. I have spent may hours of my life in this industry and have met many famous people as well. I could have made a bigger name for myself but that has never been my focus.
I will be writing for this publication that I am working for. I am having a very hard time making up my mind on what the main topic of my writing will be about. They want me to stay on topic in whatever I choose.
The more I get into this job the more I see it is just right for me to do it. I have been working on some videos of myself playing my music that I wrote but it kinda scares me to think about it putting myself on yoou tuube. I would rather be the sound man or the roadie ya know....
I have always seen myself as a gear something that keeps the music industry machine running. What do I give to the industry? I give inspiration, my intellect, pure creativity people in the business call me up all the time to ask me what I think and ask me to pray for them. Music will not ever die on my watch that's for sure.
Is Advertsising a Good Feild?
I was concerned about getting into the advertising field too so I did some research on it myself. I read an article about the two cereal companies "Kellogg's" and "Post". Before the depression they were the top 2 companies running neck and neck in sales. "Post" cut their ad budget but, Kellogg's increased their budget during this time. Kellogg's pulled out way in front of "Post" in sales and today Kellogg's is still the #1 selling cereal brand. Here is a link to the article:http://www.newyorker.com/talk/financial/2009/04/20/090420ta_talk_surowiecki
So I became convinced that with my background, selling advertisement in the music industry would be a good fit for me.

The Importance of Networking
You May be Just a Click Away
This is where my net work came into play. I found out about this position thru a forum where I blog about conservative politics. I had clicked on a link to an article that I was interested in. While at the site I noticed they had a section for classified ads so I clicked the link and found an ad for the position I now have. The owner emailed me back the very next day and we set up a time to talk on the phone. He said he was in the process of making some big changes and that he would get back with me. It took a couple of months before I heard back and I thought that it was time to make contact again one night before going to bed the next morning in my email box was a message asking me if I was still interested in the position. Is that ESP or what?
This new company that I have started working with strengthens my connection to the music industry an industry I have known and loved for many years. I applied for this position several months before landing the job.

My Dad Listened to Jazz
I Liked it Too
As it turns out I do love the Beatles but there is something about Jazz that is the tap root of my love for music. Although I told my dad I wanted to learn to play music so I could learn a Beatles song I really in my heart of hearts wanted to play Jazz.
I started taking piano lessons at 7 years old. My parents could not afford to buy me my own piano but, my mom's best friend who lived across the street had one and she said I could practice on their piano. The daughters of my mom's best friend did not want me to come over and play the piano and they would lock me out of the house. I fought them over the chance to play the piano. Then I did not want to play their piano although the desire to play smoldered in me.
One day I was hanging out in the neighborhood and a few doors up from my house and I met some new kids they were outside playing they were younger than me and I felt real protective of them getting to close to the street. The mom saw me talking to them and came out of the house to check me out. She invited me in for Kool Aid. I walked into the small house and in the front room as my mom called them was all this music equipment I ran over to the piano and started banging on it right away. The kids dad was sitting in a chair and stated laughing at me running right to the piano. He asked if I had a piano and I said no. I told him the story of my piano dilemma and he told me to come ove anytime and play his for as long as I wanted to.
The dad's name was JT Wells he was a pedal steel guitar player and he played lots of gigs. It was a good thing for me that I ran into ole JT cause I would have probably gotten sick over not being able to play music I think. Then one day JT got a big gig in Nashville him and his family and of course the piano were moving to Nashville. I asked couldn't his wife, kids and the piano stay in Charlotte and just him go to Nashville and he laughed and said no they couldn't. He played the song Mona Lisa and told me not to worry that I would figure out something cause music was in my blood.
