To avoid inadvertently installing a Rogue Security Software (an adware posing as an anti-spyware), he Googled “NoAdware” and found nothing alarming, except for one (adwarereport.com) that says it is a controversial product. The site made a review of NoAdware that generally says it is a disappointing product, that it is a Rogue Security Software, and it has a lot of false positives while it cannot detect some infections.
Intrigued and alarmed that this writer must be unto another “failing product” review, went on with his research and was led to spywarewarrior.com, a website dedicated to “waging the war against spyware.” This website has an extensive list of Rogue Security Software and presents a lot of enlightening insights on most anti-spyware products in the market.
NoAdware was in the list of spywarewarrior.com’s “rogue/suspect” products! The word is “was” because NoAdware is no longer in the list. The product can be found in the “delisted” list—meaning, they have rectified the reason for their being a “suspect.”
Spywarewarrior.com explains that, “NoAdware was listed on this page because of concerns with false positives…..” (this must be what adwarereport.com was ranting about). Spywarewarrior.com ended by reporting that NoAdware is already cleared of being a suspect because they “ … released a new version … that addresses our concern with false positives.”
Interestingly, Wikipedia (everyone’s trusted friend!) has an entry about NoAdware. It reports that, “NoAdware 4 has been accused many times of being a rogue antispyware program.” All right, this tipped the scale against NoAdware. But wait! Wikipedia continues by saying, “NoAdware has majorly improved since then … has become a popular malware remover.”
One line in Wikipedia’s entry caught this writer’s attention when it added, “NoAdware was also delisted in Spyware Warrior’s rogue anti-spyware list in early 2004.” Interesting! This writer checked Wikipedia’s entry date, it was posted/modified 24 November 2007. Interesting, indeed! A return visit to naysayer adwarereport.com revealed that the negative review was posted/last updated November 24, 2004—exactly three years older than Wikipedia’s entry. Spywarewarrior.com’s report was May 4, 2007.
OK. NoAdware must have been a lemon three years ago, but, since then, it “has majorly improved” and was delisted from the list of “rogues.”
This writer may now safely install NoAdware without worries, to find out why Wikipedia says, “it has become a popular malware remover.” And then, he can write his review.
But then again, do you still need another NoAdware review?
