Hello From Moundsview

Let me tell you about the little suburb of St. Paul that I live in. The name of the town is Moundsview, MN. It's fairly small. It has a population of just over 12,000 at the last census. It's so small, that we don't even have our own post office. We use the post office from the neighboring town of New Brighton.

Okay, it's small, but there's still decent shopping around. Just up the road from my house, there's a little mall called Moundsview Square.  There's a grocery store (Aldi), a Tobacco store, a workout club (Anytime Fitness), a tanning place (Ultra Tan), a nails place (Nails And More), a Deal Smart Store (used to be Petters), a couple of buffet type restaurants, a Cost Cutters, a Right Fit Running Shoes store, a sports collectibles shop, a Dollar General store, a liquor store, and a mattress store. Just recently, an upholstery shop was added. They generally have Sports Collectibles shows in there a couple of times a month.

Now, we don't have our own post office, but we do have a community center, a police force, a city hall, and our own branch of the library. It's not like there's nothing to do. I enjoy my town immensely. It's a great place to raise my son, and all the schools are less than 3 miles away from my house.

Where The Heck Is Moundsview, MN?

My town is situated about 15 miles north of the city of St. Paul, MN. That's one of the "Twin Cities" in case you're not familiar with the town name. Anyways, we're situated in central Minnesota. My husband and I moved here in 2002. We both went to school here, and my mother-in-law still lives in the house my husband grew up in.

As for the weather, well, we do definitely have four distinct seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Winters can get pretty harsh sometimes. We have snow, windchills, and subzero temperatures. In Spring the temperature averages about 70-75 degrees. Yes, you can have a garden here. In Summer, we can have temperatures as high as 95 degrees sometimes, with lots of humidity. Minnesota is, after all, the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." We are not in the arctic like some people think we are. Fall, the temperature averages about 50 degrees, the leaves change colors, and fall off the trees. Because we have lakes and woods within a few hours drive, no matter what you like to do, you can find something to do year round.

Here's My House

Here's a google map to show you where my house is. That way you'll be able to see where my town is too.

Neighborhood Entertainment

There aren't any tourist attractions in good old Moundsview, but there's a really fun bar to hang out in just up the road from my house. It's called Moe's. There used to be two, but one of them closed because the owner didn't know how to manage his business. Moe's has bar bingo on Monday nights, and you can take your family there for dinner. They've got great food. There's also a 14 screen theater to see the latest flicks in. It's pretty laid back here, but that's why I like living here.

Small Town Or Big Town?

I love living in this town! There's enough things to do that keep you from being bored, and you're not that far away from a major city if you feel the need to go there. There's also shopping within 5 miles of my house. I just like having the illusion of living outside a major city.

The little town of Moundsview sounds like a delightful place to visit or to live. Sometimes the very best vacations are ones which take in a number of small town visits on the way.

I love tiny towns but not suburbs...I grew up in a place which is about 30 minutes from the city so I can get everything from the city but still enjoy the village life.

I enjoyed the quick trip to moundsview, I only know it as a blink on I-35 heading south.

A blink is about right. You should actually stop and look around the next time you come through.

I'm from South Carolina. It's March and 68 degrees here. Maybe come August I'll be wishing I lived in Minnesota, but right now no. I like your stats and graphs.
