I Lost on Jeopardy, Baby

B"H

This past January, I appeared as a contestant on the game show Jeopardy. I had wanted to be on Jeopardy for most of my life. My mom and my great-aunt had both been contestants on the original Jeopardy, which was hosted by Art Fleming, in the 1960s.

It took about 2 years from the time I took the on-line test to the time I actually appeared on the program. It was a great experience.

Let me know what you think of this lens:

My Experiences on Jeopardy

My experience started with the on-line test. Jeopardy gives an on-line test once or twice a year. The test is only given at a specific time and you have to be on-line and ready when it comes on. I did it with dial-up.

The first time I took a test for Jeopardy was many years ago. They had a contestant search in Atlantic City, so my Mom and I went to try out (from where we live you can get buses to Atlantic City that are very cheap and they give you coupons for money to use at the casino, so often the bus can be either free or $5 for the trip). The test was 10 questions and you had to get 7 right -- I think I got 6).

The test they give now is composed of 50 questions and you are allowed 15 seconds for each question. It's a lot easier, by the way, to pass a test with 50 questions than with 10. (By contrast, the Millionaire test has 30 questions that are all multiple choice and they give you 15 minutes total.) On the test you don't have to say "What is..." as you do on the program.

Because I don't want to "reinvent the wheel" so to speak, I will direct you to my blog where I have my thoughts on Jeopardy. You can read more there (just try to read it in order).
