Sunrisecards- handmade cards for all occasions

Ranked #18,071 in Business & Work, #337,352 overall

My children were getting older and I decided I needed a hobby, I had a look round and thought cardmaking looked good and would be handy for friends and family.
I ordered a few bits and pieces and made a start I found it was somthing I really enjoyed.
My husband had a go as well and found it very relaxing which was good as he had a very stressful job.
We were soon making more cards than we could ever give out for birthdays so thought we'd have a go at selling them.
Since then we haven't looked back - we sold 650 last year and are on target for beating that this year.
We've since added some jewellery and gifts to the range and again these are selling really well.
Our most popular line at the moment are personalised beaded bookmarks , I originally bought 6 bookmarks and one packet of alphabet beads thinking that if they didn't sell I would make them up for my neices at christmas.
We have sold nearly 35 in 2 months and keep buying more alphabet beads !!
most of the cards we make are made to order ones so that people can have just the card they want.
our unique selling point is that we make a mock up card without sticking anything down then send the photo to the customer via e.mail then if anything needs to be altered it can be done so quickly and easily until together we have the perfect card.
Cards can be made to most themes ( unless they are subject to copyright ) and can be personalised with any name, number or text required.

This months best seller

bookmarks

These are selling like hotcakes
They can be personalised with pastel coloured alphabet beads or decorated with coloured beads of your choice, then we add a charm and voila you have a beautiful bookmark to save the page of your favourite book.
These are proving to be very popular for tree presents for Nans and also for people who have friends and relatives with unusual names as you can't often find things in the shops.
They are only £2.50 plus postage so are a real bargain and they can even be mounted onto a card ( Christmas , birthday etc ) and then they make an ideal gift for your children to give out at christmas/ birthdays for their friends and are absolutely fantastic for teachers presents makes a change from the normal smellies and chocolates and at only £3.50 on a card they are a card and gift in one and affordable to give the teaching assistants as well.

Like the look of our cards and gifts then this is where you can find them

we sell on a few auction sites and also have our own website
Sunrisecards
The way I normally do business is to get customers to e.mail me their orders.
I find this to be a very personal way of communicating and we can discuss their individual requirements

We're on here under the ID sunrisecards

This is a new auction site but very easy to use and very friendly.

Cards and earrings - a card and gift in one

Christmas theme

Although we're having sooooooo much fun with the cards working in hobbycraft is a nightmare as I see lots of new things to try and do.
I really love my earrings and over the years have gained quite a collection especially novelty ones.
In the summer I decided to try and make some of my own and yet again I became hooked on it.
I then came up with the idea of combining my two loves - cards and earrings and the results have been selling well.
They work out at only £3.50 plus postage so are great value
These cards/ gifts are brilliant if you only want to buy a small present or again if your daughter wants to buy presents for her school friends. These are a novel idea and again can be made to most themes.
I recently made a christmas card with cat earrings, I used pawprint backing paper which looked really sweet.

more cards and earrings

Birthday theme

this was my first card / earring set and I love the little red shoe earrings

Again at only £3.50 plus postage they are great value and a really novel gift

I work from home

Although I originally worked with children ( 20 + years ) once I found my 'creative ' side I was lucky enough to find a job in hobbycraft which I absolutely love.
Alongside that my husband and I run our little card / gift empire from home.
Its busy and very hectic in the buildup to christmas but we've turned our spare room into a craft room and absolutely love being up there.

My daily routine

At the moment I'm working more hours than I've ever done so when I'm at home I'm either making cards or asleep lol
I love the computer and could be on here most days much to my husbands disgust

My tips for keeping a good work-life balance from home

I'm not sure that I have a good work - life balance at the moment as we're so busy there isn't much time for anything else but thats something we're working on but we're not complaining as I absolutely love to think of all the people getting enjoyment from our cards and gifts

Yes and no. I'm still teaching but I've published my first book, My Mother's Shoes, in September. The book, Squidoo, and my blogs just might be my ticket out of the classroom.

Yup! I work from home, saves on gas and office rent!

Welcome to Zolanta. I love your stuff. I work from home, it isn't as easy as people think is it? But I find so long as I have a seperate work area, I can organise my time better. Good luck with the sales.

P.S.

I've found online sites are really good for getting my name out there
E.bay is the most popular one out there and we do very well on there under the ID sunrisecards-2008 but I'm also on Tazbar ( dunne19 ) and have just discovered a fantastic site zolanta ( sunrisecards ) and yet again I'm completely hooked , yet another site to vist daily
