Movie Tickets through the Roof

I don't know about you, but going to a movie these days is outrageous! I took my wife and two boys to see Avatar on New Year's Day. I spent $40 to get in the door, and another $40 at the concession stand! That's ridiculous and a lot of money to spend on a regular basis for "entertainment" these days.

Movies, like all other forms of entertainment (music records/tapes/cds, T.V. shows etc) have been a part of our culture since well before I was born and will continue to be, in one form or another, long after I'm gone. But the tides are turning.

Culture has shifted all the way from vinyl to MP3 downloads in digital formats. Blockbuster stores are closing their doors while the mom-and-pop video rental stores are (or already have) going under.

Blockbuster is shifting their focus on snail-mail subscriptions, following the Netflicks paradigm. And while this is a step in the modern direction, the costs still exist. And even when they say "no late fees" - don't let them fool you.

This is pop-culture at its finest - but what about the rest of us? What about the indie films? Foreign films? Short features? Adult entertainment? And last, but definitely not least - what about New Releases? I'm talking about the ones still in the theaters. The ones you're going to drop at least fifty bucks to go see the first time!

Movies and Music On-Line?!

Get what you want - NOW

It's probably the most powerful tool of the twentieth century. Knowledge and information at your fingertips. But it's often overwhelming. What seems like the simplest thing to find can become a needle in a haystack. Unless you know how to look%u2026and where.

As a software engineer, I was fascinated when someone told me about BitTorrents - and how they had grabbed a movie to watch at home NOW that was still in the theater. I couldn't believe it. And while I totally disagree and disapprove of piracy, I have to admit I was curious as to how this was being done...and how hard or easy it was. So, I started to research it. I was blown away.
"What types of entertainment are out there?" you might ask. Well...all of it! I'm going to say "every" and "all" but, of course, there may be some obscure title that can't be found%u2026.yet. But it won't be long.

For instance, I saw where you could get a copy of Avatar as well as Twilight - The New Moon and yesterday I saw quite a few "unmentionables" out there - from one extreme to another - as well. I also saw tons of music (new and old), books (new and old), and games (new and old)!

And while none of the movies - or types of entertainment I discussed - may be your taste, don't worry, there's something for everyone. You just have to know where to look.

I was so amazed with how this could be done, I decided to put together this report. This report is not designed to teach you how to be an entertainment pirate. It is not designed to teach you how to steal movies and music. What it is, is a research and analysis project on the technology and process some people are using - all out there on the Internet for ANYONE to grab - to get any kind of entertainment they want...without ever leaving their couch!
